Is there any other audio interface that offers 24 analog in and out? In one rack space? I was looking for a 24 i/o interface and was surprised to find only the MOTU 24 i/o as pretty much the only option for one unit. I thought of using two Audiofires (2x12 i/o) or a Saffire Pro (8 i/o + two ADAT i/o for a total of 24) and two Behringer ADA's. Too many connections! I didn't need the preamps, preferring to use my Soundcraft board's pres or outboard pres. So, the only option was the MOTU 24 i/o. I had a tough time installing it with the 'newest Windows 7 drivers', it just kept on crashing. So, I tried the ASIO drivers on my Windows 7 Ultimate computer, still kept crashing. Frustrated, as a last resort, I looked online for issues with the drivers and Windows 7. I found a lot of people had problems with the 'new drivers specifically for Windows 7', so I tried to use the 'older' drivers on the original disc. It worked! Transparent sound through 24 i/o! However, when I'm recording at the highest sample level, there's lags when I press 'Record' and when it actually starts. Only issue so far, but I haven't tried 24 tracks at the highest sampling rate which is 96 I think. I did try 24 tracks playing back at 48, and it worked great. Retailing at just over $1400, there is nothing at this price range that comes close to offering 24 analog i/o. The PCI-e card makes it expandable to 3 other units, for a total of 72 possible i/o! You can also use other MOTU 'Audiowire' interfaces like the 2408, the 24i, etc. Supposedly it's backwards compatable to the mk1 and mk2 versions of the hardware, although I haven't tried a second device on it yet. All in all, I couldn't be happier, unless it was also firewire compatable without a pci-e card and had MIDI or DSP for playing MIDI, but I rarely if ever need that so I haven't missed it yet. Great way to get good 24 Track recording going, especially if you have a good 24 Channel Mixing Console and/or outboard preamps. Oh, and if you're not recording at 192, since it only goes to 92.Read full review
I bought the MOTU 24 I/O because I needed a way to bounce 24 tracks of analog simaltaneously to the digital world in my recording studio. I had heard good things about the Motu products and decided it was well worth the investment. I also like it as I can expand the tracking capabilities to 96 tracks if I so desire for larger projects. I like the product because it does exactly what I need it to do. It is rather straight forward in operation. I really don't have any dislikes. If I did I wouldn't have purchased it. The advantage I have found with the Motu 24i/o over other digital audio interfaces is that it has banks of 24 channels rather than 8. For my needs that is essential to the tracking for the projects that I work on in my studio. Chip Collins
I purchase a Motu 24io and 424 pcie card for my computer music system. The product on time however, the product may not have been tested. Motu 24io continues to sit idly blinking at 44.1 kilohertz but does not connect to the computer at all.
