Wow great recorder. It may look big, but it fits any DSLR pretty well. Mounting it underneath my Lumix G7, and hand holding it while filming isn't a problem. 4 channels to record from, and 2 XLR inputs makes this a very professional sound recorder for anyone on a budget. Beware, I couldn't get any of my inexpensive lav mics to work with the XLR (1/4") inputs. I could only use the 3.5mm input. Other than that works great.

This is a tiny device but has many top of the line features. Are there better units out there? Yes, but at a $1000+ more than what I paid for this little guy. Really has helped my film productions go to the next level. I paired it with a NTG2 microphone and it the difference now between a professional sound Vs the amature hour. I am a small Indie film company and have small budgets, so this was a perfect piece to add to us.

Extraordinarily good performance: Super flat frequency response past 20 kHz. Vert low distortion, Very effective anti alias filters and excellent mic amp dynamic range. Considerably better than any other high end portable recorder we have ever tested. Rugged and easy to use. The excellent audio quality is supported by the measured technical data. (All Tests by a long time pro and multi award winning recording engineer / producer)..

Of the prosumer-level field recorders the DR-60D mkii is a good value. It isn't quite as full-featured as the Zooms, but it is a bit cheaper. If you are thinking this or the DR-70, the boxy form factor is a little problematic. The 70 fits in cages and on-camera better and its got 2 extra xlr connectors as well as built in xy mics. The 60 has very handy analog controls as opposed to the 70's click-thru menus. The legendarily short battery life is true. Count on getting an add-on battery pack to run through the USB, carrying a ton of AA's, or using the optional line power adapter if you are in studio.

It’s very feature packed. Wish it had MPG3 recording selection as the sister model DR40 has. Would save a step in the processing. As always, Tascam builds a true professional product!
