I had been wanting a DP02 for years and this one shows why. It is a very beautiful machine filled with loads of features for the home recording enthusiast.

I purchased the Tascam DP-02CF recorder just for home personal use. I have very little experence with studio recording. My daughter and I had a complete song with six tracks -- acoustic guitar...bass guitar...drums...harmonica...lead vocals...harmony -- within a few hours. The next day we downloaded the tracks to our pc (windows xp) and burned our first CD, sounds great. We read all of the manual before we even turned the recorder on, and found it very easy to find our way around. The manual is very reader friendly. We haven't used advanced techniques yet but are excited to try.
I find this recorder fairly easy to use, has great effects and the play back is very good. I bought my DP-02 Used and have been very happy with all the functions. Mastering Is a Art in itself, in my case being able to overlay Saxophone on two or three tracks and then blend them is a cool thing, some of my recordings are sounding much like a prof. recording studio with out the hourly cost, also in my case, it's just a lot of fun with music. Really glad I bought this Recorder.
The digital portastudio to replace my tape unit is light years beyond what tape could do. I had the unit up and running in the first hour I had it home. This is my second unit, which I use in conjunction with my original DP-02. This unit allows you to record to compact flash (SD) or connect to a computer. I have used this unit along with my laptop to record live concerts and to take a studio on the road so to speak. I bought my first one new, and picked my second one on ebay. The unit also runs on batteries and AC. I highly recommend Tascam for it's value and features.
I thought I was buying a DP-02CF but got a DP-02, which was fine wilth me. I took this unit to an out door show and recorded 3 bands. The quaility was outstanding. I would recommend that you read the manual front to back before you attempt to use it. After that it will open up what this unit can truely do. You can not beat this unit for the price vs quaility, durablilty, and useability. The only downside is it records on 2 tracks at one time. If you need to record on all 8 tracks at once, you will need to up grade to the Tascam 2488.
