I bought my first 038 when I wanted to replace an 041...Salesman in Princeton, Indiana told me the 38 would outwork the 41...Didn't make sense to me! so I called the salesman on it...He said he would be happy to back up his claim, I have known him for years, so I bought the saw...New...I worked great, spunky little devil it was, I was happy happy happy...Used it for ten years or more, cutting off stumps from the excavator on clearing jobs, made it easier to clean burn the mess...Youngest son caught it in a tree once and removed it with the excavator like he probably had done a few times before...I would have had him remove the engine from the bar first but I wasn't there...Next I found it in the tool box of the R model Mack in pieces...Replaced it with another Stihl for the time being, as they were out of production at the time...Later on they brought them back under popular demand and we got another new one...I think it got mashed too, kids don't like to talk about such things but none was the saws' fault...Have ran Stihl since 1973 here when I cut a little pulp wood for a local company I am friends with, and have had Stihl products since...Even talked a Husky dealer into changing over to Stihl when a dealer retired in Princeton, here...Nothing bad at all about a Stihl saw other than the darned gas and oil caps...I stihl don't like them but all else is great...Can watch what I buy and keep the old gas and oil cap deals...I use their premixed gas/oil too, when I put a saw away for longer than a couple weeks...Ha. good lite saW for carrying on the skidder good power over all. used near daily for logging.working blow down timber in mo has had its up,s and down. its brushie and snakeee for sure having had a inland hurricane may 09, the lighter saw has been a lot easier than the 460 or 66 sthil we have used every other brand made and always come back .the rest is tire chocks.if you want a good saw stihl is the one you need! after all you get what you pay for right . so if you want a saw that last and has easy near by service. buy one or two you won,t have to buy another for years happy cutting
I am a collector of Stihl chainsaws as well as a user of Stihl saws. The Stihl 038 has lots of power and a very reliable saw. I have a 038 AV Super and 038 AV Magnum 2. Both of my 038's start very easy. I highly recommend this saw if you want a midsize saw with lots of versatility, power and reliability. Both of my 038's are older, but there is nothing that I dislike or can fault about the 038. Thanks Stihlboss
Great saw, starts easy, runs great, has an issue at idle on its side, but other than that perfect.
