Where as this book is certainly not essential to the overall story line of the television show Star Trek: Voyager, it does lend itself very well to enhancing the already strong characters. Going into detailed accounts of individual back stories (of such characters as B'Lanna, Harry, Tom, Chakotay, Tuvok, Neelix and even Kes) this book does add moments of clarity when viewing certain episodes. Like when Neelix refers to the tragedy of what happened on his home world and how he lost his family, thanks to this book I know exactly what he's talking about. Or how about that accident that got his colleagues killed and himself named a disgrace? Tom's story fills in the blanks. This is one of my favorite Star Trek Books and one of only 3 Voyager books that I consider important for any true fan to read. (other two include: Mosaic - Janeway's backstory, and Captain's Table: Fire Ship)Read full review
