First off, the visual impact of these books is awesome. The pencils by Joe Madureira, and the colors by Steve Buccellato and co. give the series a very distinctive appeal. Another thing I really liked about this title – and the entire Age of Apocalypse x-over – was the new characters; particularly Blink and Holocaust. Not only were these new mutants pivotal to the story arc, a few of them were so cool they actually ‘escaped’ to the normal Marvel Universe after it was all said and done. The X-team in this book is one-of-a-king, and the unique characters and personalities and powers make for some great interpersonal dynamics, and some really iconic battles and cool, science-fiction imagery. Also, the story in this one is well-paced, and the action is directly relevant to the plot. I really enjoyed this series when it originally came out, and re-reading it now makes me remember why.
