Why do I need a guidebook to my favorite and oft visited Hawaiian island? Having owned the 7th, 9th and 11th editions and seen noted changes in The Best and Gem categories would be enough to compel me to buy again. Then there’s the summaries by side of the island (N, W, S, E), numerous maps (love the distances chart!) and layout by “interest” (beach, hike, eat, adventure, etc.) - that would be enough to single it out. But what I really appreciate as an ‘ex pat local’ is the Good Tourist protocols updated to reflect courtesy and conservation to the the place and people who make this the island Where feel the ohana aloha. I’ll probably skip the 12th edition and stick with my odd numbers before I buy my next book. Truly and aptly named The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook!
