I first became interested in this book when I visited Turkey earlier this year. The hotel we stayed at in Urgup was mentioned in Patricia Schultz' book, as well as other places in Turkey. When I returned to the States, I got the book thru eBay. The book is very comprehensive in covering places around the world, although it was not clear if Schultz had visited every one of these places individually (a seemingly impossible task) or if she had visited most of the places and had relied on friends and articles for those she had not visited. I very much like the format and the short descriptions and will definitely consult this book when planning my next trip (to Nepal in 2009 for the solar eclipse).
I bought this book when the new T.V. show came out on the Travel Channel. The show started really slow in Alaska. I would love to go to Alaska but Travel channel already does so many things there. Anyways back to the review, the show started slow so I stopped watching it. The book however is great! It is broken down into different continents and then by countires from there. The only thing I can somewhat complain about is that I wish I could have spent an extra $10 to get it in color. Other than that it's fantastic and I recomend it for all.
This amazing book covers the entire world in recommending places to see, visit and admire. If you love to travel, as I do, this is like a guidebook to the world. It tells you what to see and where to eat all over the world. But not just an endless list of "to dos" but just the top places to see in each locale. If you have ever traveled somewhere and missed something, this book will help you see what is important to visit in each location. It's fun read and makes you want to travel more and appreciate where you have already been.
This books main concern is lodging and eating. Not what I was looking for. I'd sleep in a car, a tent, a cut rate motel or whatever it took to see the Great Wonders of Man and Nature. I was hoping to find the Worlds Must See Great Wonders not a great restaurant or a great bed or great chandeliers in a tasteful lobby. disappointed...
The book gives phone numbers, emails, and prices. It is easier to make your dreams come true when you know that you can afford it! OR NOT!!!!!! I previewed the book at an expensive coffee shoppe; then found the right price for me on the internet. Sure do miss the smell of the coffee.
