The book details in a clear style on how to restructure the process of education as we now know it. The authors essentially propose that all education should be, and could be, individual in nature. They believe this is the best way to teach students and meet all individual needs. I do not believe this is necessarily true because so much of education is social in nature. Completely individualizing the process takes much of the social aspect out of play. As in all methods of eduation, one size does not fit all. The same can be said for this method.
I get skeptical when I see business researchers attempt to solve problems outside their domain by applying business logic, but this book is very different. The same guy who brought us The Innovator's Dilemma shows how the same principles that cause disruption in business could be used to change our system of education. This book is well-written, and easy to read and understand. If you are interested in how education might change in the future, this is a great book to read.
Clayton Christensen forces current educators, administrators, and students to look at education from a radically different perspective than we ever have before. Pushing the possibilities of technology and individualized learning, I strongly believe "Disrupting Class" is a must read for anyone interested in the future of education. Great read!
I bought the book in November for an online book study beginning in January. I plan to read it over my Winter break, starting next week. I've skimmed the few pages in the first few chapters and it looks like it will be an interesting book study.
