This is the first book I have read by this author, and I must say, I was not disappointed in the least. It is the story of a man who has lost his entire reason for living, and how he copes in a very strange world. The man discovers a series of deaths related to the loss of his family and how an old African "culling" song seems to make people die at the recitation of the song. This book was hard to put down because I wanted to know who was going to die next. It is not a mystery, but it will have you cocking your head to one side in amazement. You will either love this book or hate it, I don't think there is an in between. I am already reading another book by Mr. Palahniuk (Haunted) and it is even wilder!! Love this author!! I thought Stephen King and Joe R. Lansdale were vivid and on the weird side, butI think this guy has got them both beat.Read full review
It's very hard for me to say what the best Chuck Palahniuk novel is, but one on my list would have to be 'Lullaby'. I read this book almost a year ago,(I read it in late fall) and went through it in a day and a half.(Much like when I read Stephen King's Carrie this summer as well) Lullaby is a funny, dark tale about a journalist who is investigating in a series of infant death syndrome. All of the cases he is involved in, has only one possible clue. A rented out library book with poems and nursery rhymes from around the world, and they're all on the same page with a culling song that puts the sick or old to death. It turns his world upside down after he reads it to his editor, and his editor turns up dead the day after it was read to him. That's a bit of the story there to get you interested. It's really entertaining, well written, and catching. If you've read or seen the film 'Fight Club' and love it, then you should pick this book up.(and Chuck's other novels) This one is one of my personal favorites, but again it's hard for me to say what my favorite Chuck Palahniuk novel is.(They are all wonderful tales) I think you'll be entertained after reading one of Chuck's novels.Read full review
Anyone that loves the sick, twisted ways of Chuck Palahniuk will not be disappointed. Another WTF you won't be able to put down. Amazing detail and outlandish stories that somehow have the reality of real life. If you think your life sucks, read any of his novels and you may think differently. One thing is for sure, you'll be glad you're not one of his characters, but even more glad you discovered the new "cult classic" that is Chuck Palahniuk. A story that starts out as a simple retreat but turns tragic, you'll think twice about staying with strangers from now on.
I love all Chuck Palahnuik's books, but this one is by far my favorite. Also it was a signed copy which is a bonus. I look foward to many more titles from same auther in future. When I saw this copy, I had to have it.
Excellent book. All of Chuck's books are on a different level. This dives into a more witchcraft type novel. I breezed through it in a couple of hours. Plus, I just heard that they are making it into a novel. CREEPY!!!!
