About this product

Product Information

"A pissed off Leary is the best Leary," says one critic of the writer and comic. In Why We Suck, Dr Denis Leary uses his common sense, and his biting and hilarious take on the world, to attack the politically correct, the hypocritical, the obese, the thin - basically everyone who takes themselves too seriously. In Why We Suck, Leary's famously smart style and sardonic wit have found their fullest and fiercest expression yet. Zeroing in on the ridiculous wherever he finds it, Leary unravels his Irish Catholic upbringing, the folly of celebrity, the pressures of family life, and the great hypocrisy of politics.Proudly Irish American, defiantly working class, with a reserve of compassion for the underdog and the overlooked, Leary delivers blistering diatribes that are penetrating social commentary with no holds barred. Leary's book will find wide appeal among people who want to laugh out loud or find a guide who matches their view of what's wrong in America and the world-at-large.

  • Why We Suck.........

denis leary really hits the nail on the head the way america has lost its balls. it is refreshing to hear the truth from someone even though it might be a little exagerated, but thats ok cause a certain few can see past that and see the point he is trying to make and not just react to the words coming out of his mouth. its time america grows a set and removes filters and hears it like it is. Dr Denis Leary....Job very well done. PS i hate reading and i could not put this book down.

  • Could be low brow at times but very true & funny!!

Before this book I never even heard of Denis Leary (I'm not much of a tv person). I simply bought the book because the title was funny, the back cover and the dedication made me laugh so I figured I'd give it a whirl… Basically, if you get through the first two chapters of this book you should be okay, you may even enjoy it. When reading the first chapter I nearly put the book down believing it would read like a senseless-drunken-frat boy wrote it solely for the purpose of trying to be funny without humor or context. However, as I read on the book quickly turned out to be truly comical and light-hearted. Leary opens up about himself, his family and his Irish upbringing. He relates his personal experiences to pop culture, society, life. His satirical humor and personal touch turn the ...

  • I saw Denis Leary at a radio taping and was impressed.

I saw the man speak about his life and Irish Catholic ancestory. He was very humorous in a wry and vulgar sort of way. He seemed to hit the importance of life and the basic idea that we're so much more the same than different. I happened to discuss him with my 30 year old daughter. She too was terribly impressed with his reflections on life.

  • You Gotta Trust Him, He's a Doctor, After All.....

Dr. Denis Leary puts together a owner's manual of the male brain that no female should be without. Women of the world, don't bang your head against the wall when it comes to dealing with your men, read this book, so the next time he scratches his butt in your presence, or picks something out of his ear, smells it, and then wipes it on his shirt, you'll be able to say...'Ahh, Dr, Leary spoke of this very action taken by the male being...'

  • Dead on...

A very good friend recommended this book. I found it very honest and funny. Not for the faint of heart or those who do not know Denis Leary's style. He is brutally honest in this book and it is oh so true.
