This is Vangelis at his best; with a little help from some guy named Jon Anderson? ;) That's a joke. If you don't know who Jon Anderson is, then you wouldn't be aware of this album in the first place. I tend to think of "Short Stories" as a more rounded out album than Vangelis' and Jon's 2nd project together: "The Friends of Mr. Cairo." The first track on "Short Stories" just sets the show off with fireworks and a little bit of "abstract" lyrics from Jon; Jon Anderson....smoke filled room <ahem!>....moth dust <where the smoke was coming from...ahem!> you get the picture. Jon is just the epitome of strange if you ask me but, with a unmistakable voice that has defined Prog Rock for years. So if you like Yes, then you'll love the vocals on this album. The music, on the other hand, will be very foreign to Yes fans who haven't developed a taste for Vangelis. If you need to make a connection between something you've almost certainly heard many times over that is pure Vangelian in sound, think Chariots of Fire theme; that's Vangelis. For more discerning tastes think "Bladerunner." "Short Stories" is a gem though, any way you look at it. So check it out!Read full review
