This book is what we use as a "jumping off place" in our weekly Bible study group. It leads us into introspective evaluation, stimulates conversation and gets us digging deep into God's Word with the applicable Scriptures in every chapter! On a personal level, it is powerful for anyone but especially one inclined to feel the need to be in charge of his/her own life. Max Lucado writes masterfully to remind us we must rely fully upon God. What a clever and fun writing style for so serious a subject that affects or afflicts us all!

CAN YOU IMAGINE YOUR LIFE WITHOUT FEAR? This is the question posed on the back of the book jacket and I live my life without fear most of the time so wanted to see what Lucado had to say that will help people do the same, so when the opportunity presented itself to review this book for the publisher, Thomas Nelson, I took it. I'm glad that I did. This book is written in an easy, conversational style that makes it very readable and believable. If you are not a person who likes heavy, brain-numbing books, this one is for you. If you enjoy feeling like the author and you may be sitting in the same room chatting over a cup of java and shooting the fat, then grab this book. If you like books where Scripture is peppered throughout and is clearly relevant to the story being told, Fearless is a must have book. If you have ever wondered what it would be like to not be afraid of life and would like some things to consider for ways to overcome living scared, pick up a copy of this book today. Yes, leave this review and go nab a copy before they are all gone! There is a discussion guide in the back that goes Chapter by Chapter and will help you and your friends dig deeper into the book if you want to discuss it, or will aide you in thinking more about what you read. You could use it as a lighter Bible study if you wish. By lighter I mean that there are some questions that will make you think and self-examine or philosphize without picking up your Bible while others may have you doing an in depth study to see what God has to say on a subject. One example of a lighter question to me is this: "Satan cannot reach you without passing through God." Does it comfort you to know that Satan cannot reach you without passing through God? Explain. Why do you think God sometimes allows Satan to reach you? What is God's purpose? (page 200) An example of some deeper study is from page 212-213: Read Matthew 24:4-14. How many times is some form of deception mentioned in this passage? What does this tell you about knowing sound doctrine as a tool against fear? I highly recommend this book for personal study as well as small group study or for a gift becuase Lucado hits on areas of everyday fears for people: medical challenges, the children, death, doubt and disappointing God to name a few. His writing is clear, concise, freindly, thought-provoking and is Lucado at his best. The only thing that I did not like about the book is, being a fan of the King James Version of Scriptures, there is none of that here which makes the Bible stories more watered down for me but I can always take out that version of the Bible for studying what comes at th end of Fearless. This is an outstanding read.Read full review

"Fearless: Imagine Your Life Without Fear", by Max Lucado, is a book that I needed to read. What would my life really be like without fear, worry and dred? Max Lucado teaches us how to use the teachings of Jesus Christ to deal with fear and live a free and rewarding life. "Fear not." Those simple words are the basis of this book. Jesus said those words many times as he taught and ministered to people. This book examines many kinds of fear and then attempts to answer the question; "What would Jesus do?" There is no magic formula for making feelings of fear go away. Prayer, reading the Bible and fellowship with other Christians will help us face and overcome our fears. We are not alone and we should not be ashamed of our fears. Jesus said, "Take courage, I am here". (Matt. 14:27 NLT) I believe those words and I will make them my motto. There is a study guide at the end of the book for individual or group use. I plan on going back and really working on the issues presented in this book. I can only imagine a life without fear - this book is a wonderful resource for making a "no fear" life a reality.Read full review
