I have been teaching myself to knit, and this is one of the books that I kept checking out of the library. This is an all around good book for someone who knows the very basics and is just learning. It would also be good for an experienced knitter who just needs a little refresher on how to do certain tasks. The book has very good color pictures showing each step in the process. There is so much in this book. The only thing I didn't like it that there is no dedicated page for basic stitches like the garter stitch, stockinette stitch, and moss stitch. These are worked into the explainations on other topics. Here is more detail about the book, but it isn't totally inclusive: The book teaches both English and Continential knitting, two methods of casting on, knitting, purling, slip stitches (and passing over), yarn over, tubular, increases and decreases, and binding off. It teaches knitting with regular needles, double pointed needles, and circulars. It takes you through the basics of making a sweater. There are different necks, shoulders, sleeves, wristbands, collars, hems, edgings, buttonholes, pockets, darts, tucks, and pleats. It teaches how to do the jacquard stitch, beading, smocking on knits, and cabling. It also shows how to make bobbles, pompoms, and fringe. There are patterns for baby booties, mittens, gloves, socks, and an aran isle sweater. It also teaches you how to embroider on knits and gives several patterns of things that can be done. It also has a section on making corrections for dropped stitches while you are knitting and repairing tears in knits that are finished projects. The title says "A Complete Course", and while I don't know that I would totally agree, I would say that it is a complete course if you want to make any of the patterns included in the book... the main one being a sweater with which you can do many, many different variations.Read full review
I own many knitting books since I took up this new hobby of mine. Each one of them covers the same information. I have bookmarked each and every one of them to learn different things. Sometimes the book I am using does not explain things well and I use another to find another explaination. Knitting School:The Complete Course is a great book for beginner and more advanced knnitters. The directions are clear, the diagrams are wonderful and easy to read. There are multiple diagrams for some of the stitch decreases, different necklines, buttonholes, and too many stitches to list. The other things it contains is how to do beading in your knitting, smocking, bobbles, fringes and fur stitches that can be used for the many boho purses that are now popular as well as for stuffed animal fur. There are too many different subjects in this book. Now on to my sock and aran isle stitches!!Read full review
I am a long time knitter and thought a refresher course would be of value. $ 4.20 was just the right price.

I was expecting this book to be what the title suggests: a complete course in knitting. However, as a beginning knitter I was disappointed that there was a great deal of patterns. However, there was less of a "school" for learning knitting stitches as I would have expected. Very disappointing book that I will most likely NEVER USE.
