The box says "The best independant film of the year." It must have been the ONLY independant movie of the year. The box also says this movie is "The US answer to Shaun of the Dead". One point for England. This movie breaks the number one rule for zombie films: keep the plot simple. There are pretty much three ways zombies occur - 1: no explanation (the simplest), 2: acid rain (the best in my book), 3: radiation or a mad scientist (so much the better if it takes both). This movie, which by the way takes FOREVER to get off the ground, uses some mystic Buddhist box. Either you take a piece of hair out of it or put a piece of hair in it or rotate 90 degrees or bake for 45 minutes and let stand before serving. I have no idea. There are more rules for that little box in this movie than a game of Risk and I was unable to follow it all. Without a doubt the most ludicrous method for introducing zombies in any movie I've ever seen. Also, the lighting in this movie is pretty hokey, and the acting is sup-par for the 'all-star' cast. There are some great gore shots; especially when the guy from the Drew Carey show takes a machete in the neck. Plenty of head related violence in this one, however, the action is not very well paced. When the zombies should be attacking, they are milling around or when the humans should be doing something (monsters are trying to kill you after all) they are milling around or poorly delivering their lines. The fake southern accents are grating as well, especially the librarian, who is one of the least likeable characters in any movie in recent memory (unintentionally though; I think the filmmakers actually meant to make her endearing to the audience). Somehow the humans kill the lead zombie by shoving a leg bone through his chest. I was really out of it at this point, but I think that was actually required to kill him. When he dies, so do the rest of the zombies. So what happened to 'destroy the brain, destroy the ghoul'? What kind of ridiculous plot requires death by leg bone? What kind of zombie movie has all the zombies' fates tied to one badly made up lead zombie? Answer: Dead and Breakfast - The US answer to Shaun of the Dead. I hope George Romero is thoroughly peeved about this one. On the upside, this movie is 88 minutes long, but after you've watched you'll feel like it was 3 hours, so at least you're getting your money's worth.Read full review
The greatest, goriest zombie horror parody is DEAD ALIVE (AKA: BRAIN DEAD). If you love that film --- and also love CANNIBAL: THE MUSICAL and THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, you will also like DEAD AND BREAKFAST --- but not as much. There are too many characters who are either not very interesting, one-dimensional, or get killed off immediately. The zombie explanation, and solution, does not make sense. The best part is the singing narrator. Had this gone the full-on musical route, it would have been more enjoyable. Still worth a look if you're into comedy horror, but the other three films I mention are better.

I gotta say, I didn't expect a lot from this film but it surprised the heck out of me. It gets compared to Shaun Of The Dead quite often, so it was easy to be sceptical but let me say, it definitely holds it's own. Maybe not as good as Shaun but close, real close. Basic story, a group of friends on their way to a wedding stop at a bed and breakfast to stay the night and before you know it.......chaos ensues. Like always, some moron opens a box and hello zombies! Plenty of gore, comedy and surprise deaths follow and you'll never know what to expect, trust me. Oh, and there's a narrator that sings........several times throughout the film but you know what, that just adds to it's charm. This movie can be had for pretty cheap, so you really have no excuse not to give it a chance. You won't be sorry......oh no, you won't be sorry. Btw, I mentioned gore before and let me say, there's a ton of it, along with some nice head shots. Just thought the gorehounds would wanna know. ;)Read full review
I really enjoyed this movie. It is full of zombies, gore, music and humor. Six friends on a road trip end up in a sleepy & creepy texas town overun by zombies. The zombies can only be killed by decapitation or chainsaw.I enjoyed the music as much as the movie. This is very gory and may not be for everyone, but if you like zombies & gore and don't mind a little music and humor -then this film might just work for you.Unrated version and PSP version available as well. I would also recommend you pick up the soundtrack, it has some good tunes on it . The "coming to kill ya" song is great! Check this movie out!
