I wouldn't recommend "Clinical Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple" for an undergrad Micro student. I know it's mostly health professions grad students who get it, but I thought it might give me an edge of some kind. For instance, I was looking for a simplified explanation of ssRNA(+), ssRNA (-), dsRNA, ssDNA viral replication mechanisms. (And I hadn't read the review from DrPooh.) Ultimately, I did it the old fashioned way using the recommended reading for the course, and I also used my (very compressive) BIO 101 text which ended up being the biggest help to make the complicated subject easier to understand for a first-timer. Some of my diagrams would work nicely in "Clinical Microbiology"! In my Micro course we also had to know pathogenic properties of various organisms, but ultimately I only had time to review lecture PowerPoint slides, and that was sufficient. Obviously, "Clinical Microbiology" is geared toward practical grad school purposes. If you hope it will help you in an undergrad course, I doubt it's what you need. If you want to check it out anyway, I would get a very, very used copy.Read full review

I really love the pictures and pneumonics that this book has. It makes things easy to remember. Each chapter has text in the beginning and at the end it has tables. If you are a person who likes to learn from tables then this would make your life much easier. A must have if you're taking usmle or comlex.
Very easy to read, and makes microbiology interesting. Doesn't get into all the details I need for medical school, but it makes more general topics easily understood.
Clinical Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple is a must buy for any microbiology course. Its clear and easy to read, and it uses lots of pictures to help you remember important details.
