This is the latest "original" collection of Dilbert comic strips. If you know Dilbert then, well, you know Dilbert. If you don't ... you probably do, and just don't realize it. Dilbert is an engineer, because that's what he is. However, for those who read the daily strip, he might as well be a secretary, a store clerk, a programmer, an advertising copywriter, a teacher or anything else. You see, Dilbert isn't about engineers. It's about politics. Office politics. And that could be your office or it could be mine. Let's take a look at some of the players, and see how will they match people you already know: * In your office, are you managed by a Pointy Haired Boss? Does he (or she) have a talent to blind you with the obvious? In the Dilbert world, the blindness inflicted on underlings is very literal. * If (what am I saying - BECAUSE) you have such a boss, don't you wish your office had an Alice? She is quick with her wit, as well as her "fist of death." Fortunately, the fist is usually used for good and not evil. Usually * Of course you already know Wally. He's the guy who follows his coffee mug wherever it leads. And, if that leads him to take a month to open a file, then so be it. * You have Catbert, the evil HR Director. Didn't you always know that only a cat could think up such conflicting policies? * Or Ratbert, who is leveraged from gnawing on extension cords to become a stinking-rich CEO of a major corporation. * Or Dogbert, Dilbert's loyal pet. Even though his stated goal is to become supreme overlord of the world, he still manages to take time out to create all internet spam that ever existed, manipulate bad stock offerings and, occasionally, listen to Dilbert without falling asleep. And Dilbert? Well, I hate to tell you this, but he's you. There's no dancing around the subject (a dancing Dilbert; now that is one disturbing image). The Dilbert world has more than its fair share of "slayings." Nothing graphic of course. Or even cruel (sometimes Alice's fist is a bit too quick). But there are a couple in this collection. I know it's strange to say that they really aren't violent, but they really aren't. Still, if you think that might bother you, you might want to steer shy. So, this is Dilbert, and his latest set of original comic strips. It's fun and warped and, well, it's Dilbert. If you work in an office (or need a reminder of why you don't want to) then buy this book.Read full review
