Well, I have to say that overall I found this new book a useful companion to the original 3.5 PHB. For those looking to enhance the role-playing depth of their characters, this is the book for you. It provides some new classes and some new options for some of the old ones. The options for retraining are very useful and make sense for someone wanting to revamp a character somewhat without having to resort to making an entirely new one. The new feats are very interesting. WotC has added a few new catagories of Feats to complicate things even more. Overall, they should be of use. There are 2 new kinds of actions; swift and immediate actions; both shouldn't unbalance the game too much. It seems that there are careful limits in place to ensure a character can't do too much (or more than once per round). As for spells, I would have liked to see more additions. Some of the new ones are useful; they grant bonuses and can be burned off to provide a one-time larger bonus. Overall, this is a good book, I recommend it if you are a serious DnD player. A wonderful addition to the core materials, the second player's handbook expands player's choices for character background and motivation. The Beguiler class and Polymorph subschool are nice, in addition to the new spells and feats listed. The back of the book contains a collection of pages that greatly assist in quick npc creation, meaning the DM can focus more on the story and not the loadout. There is also a great new collection of Teamwork based combat skills and benefits, making coordination even more beneficial during a fight. All in all, a great addition to enrich the story and player's interactions with the fantasy world.

Well, before I bought it I asked myself what to expect from a Player's Handbook 2. It sounded like a "reloaded" Player's Guide and this was what I hoped for, but this was not what I got. Surely - it is a companion with usefull additions to create more depth to the player characters - with feats, kits and all the like. But this I have gotten with all the Campaign guides and such. When I open the book and flip through the pages I see no general overview (like a master table) just more additions and options. With the 3rd Edition (or 3.5) I have tons of additions and options and no manual tying it really all together. So in the end it is an average compendium book, but I feel it does not deserve the name "Player's Handbook 2" - as such it is a disappointment; at least to me it was.
Shipped my hard back book in an unpadded flimsy plastic bag like rapping book arrived damaged.
