I had a specific goal in mind when deciding on a TENS device. As a cycling enthusiast, long and strenuous workouts make recovery between rides a dicey proposition. Workouts that span an hour to several hours, (or days if you're into endurance) are structured to improve speed, endurance, and power so muscle recovery is a key part of the equation. As I am no longer a young man (66 y o) recovery is vitally important if improvement is expected. Daily deep tissue massage is by far the best solution but at $50-$60 + tip to the therapist it's maybe affordable if your a sponsored professional but not by us mere mortals. I did considerable research and decided on Compex based on the company reputation, product history, technology, and extensive user feedback. The Performance 2 unit includes 6 program options, Active Recovery being the one I was most interested in but after several weeks of use have now incorporated the Endurance, and Resistance modes into my regimen. OK, so the big question is...WHAT ARE THE RESULTS? I generally prefer withholding any judgements until I've had enough time to offer an informed opinion. My initial impressions are very positive when utilized within an hour of completing a workout using the P2 in Active Recovery Mode then on an off day doing an Endurance session followed up immediately by Active Recovery. Dead legs are a cyclists worst enemy and TENS stimulation has enormous potential that I'm just now beginning to explore so will be experimenting to determine what combination of therapies works best. Indoor training is brutal but with modern smart trainers, real improvement in average power, measured in watts, and FTP, functional threshold power, can be made so that as the riding season begins you have a significant base. In the past, base training was all about road miles but in a cold climate that can be delayed until mid March or April some winters and a late start. Sports Medicine technology has come a long way in my many years riding bikes and the Compex Performance 2 TENS is another tool in the bag for any athlete looking for a competitive edge or in my case an old guy just hoping to get a little better. If I have a complaint it's the cost of replacement pads, OUCH! Granted if you use them correctly you can get 20+ uses out of each one but still. There are less expensive third party options though I guess like with anything else you get what you pay for and the Compex pads are very high quality. In any case, I'd wholeheartedly recommend Compex P2 to a friend.Read full review

I recommend this product to anyone who has those nagging injuries. Works great for pain relief and muscle recovery. Pros: I went on a few long hikes and usually really sore after all the elevation gain. I used the recovery feature to flush out the lactic acid in hopes of not being as sore the next day. I did indeed feel fresher and was easily able to get back in the gym. Without the EMS device, I typically take the next day as a rest day. The TENS feature is extremely helpful. I get plantar fasciitis regularly and have a bad ankle from constantly injuring it throughout my basketball days. Sometimes the pain is bad enough to where I can’t even walk. Now, I just pop on the pads and crank up the TENS as high as I can withstand. The pain subsides within 5-10 minutes and helps loosen the area. This is not the only thing I do to help rehabilitate these areas, but definitely an added benefit to the recovery routine. Putting the pads on your traps at a lower level feels like a massage. I always get up relaxed and refreshed. I have used the strength feature a few times (while watching TV) and feel sore after the workouts, so I do feel like I am building muscle. Although, my preferred method has always been going to the gym. Maybe I will warm up to the idea of supplementing my workouts with this in the future. Cons: There is a learning curve on where to place the pads. The best way I learned how to place the pads was to go on both their website for visual diagrams and Youtube for quick instructional videos. The placement pads will eventually need to be replaced.Read full review
