The content is exactly what you expect from Saxon. Light on repetition on learning a new concept but heavy on continuous review allowing concepts, once learned to be anchored. Book came with more writing on pages and damage than I expected but I didn't buy it new. It is about what I would expect my child to receive if they went to a public school and got a book that was a few years old. Definitely a good deal with the expanded answer key which is a big help when someone isn't sure of the process in solving a problem. I would definitely purchase again.

Algebra can be difficult and I don't find Saxon Algebra 2 to be very good at explaining things for my teen. I always did well in math, especially Algebra, but have found that I need the Saxon Teacher DVDs in order to make this curriculum more usable.

Love this series. The Saxon method is very student and parent friendly. Explanations actually make sense. Directions are lucid and easy to follow. Learning is incremental, so a sturdy foundation of understanding is built. There are other materials available for purchase that can accompany this book, incl. a solutions manual. I highly recommend getting this, (& not just the answer book, which generally everyone has,) because in 'Solutions', you will find how to work each & every problem. Because sometimes, no matter how crystal clear the directions and formulas have been, you do need to see the actual problem worked. So the manual, even if you only use it once or twice, is good to have. Another accessory available for Algebra 2 (and other Saxon Math books, although I'm not sure which ones,) is a CD set called 'Saxon Teacher'. This is a great help & can replace the solutions manual, for explanations of how a problem is worked. If you go to the Saxon Math website, you can get a demonstration of how the CDs work, but basically, it's like an electronic chalkboard, & is very easy to use. If you're buying new, the CDs cost as much as the book, which they do not replace. They're just an extra teaching aid, but very nifty if you're budget can take the hit. Otherwise, you just need the solutions manual. A last word about the Saxon Math series, including the Algebra books. Watch the edition number when buying accompanying materials. No matter which edition you select, the edition numbers between all of the various manuals & test booklets, etc., need to match the edition number of your book. The latest edition for Algebra 2 is Edition Three. Earlier editions should cost a lot less, & are basically just fine. As a homeschooling mom & non-math genius, I absolutely love the Saxon Math series, & have been using the books for three years now with excellent result. Good stuff.Read full review
Worth 1.5 credits of high school math (1 credit for Alg.II, 0.5 credits formal geometry). Student will be well prepared for SAT and higher mathematics. Follows a very incremental approach to learning so that the student really masters the material. Nothing is ever taught and then abandoned in later chapters. 3rd edition bonus: every problem includes a note showing which chapter(s) introduced the key concept used in that problem, so the frustrated student can easily review the needed concept on his own.
