The Opulent Interiors Of The Gilded Age is a lovely book with early photographs of mansions in New York and around the USA from the 1800's. Most of these photos depict places that have been demolished, so in that sense they are very interesting from a historical viewpoint. Some of these places still stand according to the book, but with some renovations. A person who is interested in art, interior design, or historical interiors of the period would like this book very much. The photos are not as clear as photos of today, as they are the original glass plates of the period, but they are still very clear. They are all black and white, as color was not in use at that time. The information with the photos is very interesting, going into detail about each room, and each family who owned the mansion. As one interested in historical interiors, I like this book very much and would recommend its purchase. The price certainly is reasonable, the book well made and Dover Publications cannot be criticized. Read full review
