Bought this one to replace my old one - works as advertised. The ad said 98% and I didn't know what that meant, but now I do - it has scratches on the screen, but they don't impede its performance.

this unit is quite simple to operate. controls are pretty much self explainatory. Quite accurate and quick to respond. the negative side of this unit is that it is difficult to use on the highway as it does not have capabilities to include city select in the programming. It does contain major roads and highways, but not a good street detail, nor does it have turn by turn directions. However, since this is primarily a marine unit it does what it is designed for quite well.
Replaced my 172 black/white with a 172 color and won't go back. Very easy to use and program. Rolled the map chip (172 to 172c) with no issues and it maintained my secret fishing spots.

Like all Garmin products it's a highly reliable unit. It's easy to use, easy to read, with good color and contrast. Simple enough to operate, my 2 blonde sailing companions mastered the basic functions in an hour or so. If it has any drawbacks, it is the fact that detailed chart info is only available with the (rather expensive) c-chart data cards, avaiable only from Garmin. This has been solved on later (and more expensive) Garmin units by including N. Amer cartorgraphy info. If you buy a 172C I stongly recommend getting the card for your local area. These can be found used on eBay for $40-$70, if you look. I got mine right here over a year ago, and I'm still quite happy!
