The HP Scanjet 5550c is the perfect small business scanner. In my practice, I have intake paperwork ranging from 3-9 pages. With the ADF (automatic document feeder), you can scan your information - save it to pdf files (with the included software), and voila' - a virtually paperless office. It is also a flatbed scanner, with a variety of options and scanning quality settings. Is it the newest? No! Is it high speed? I'd consider it a medium speed scanner for scanning straight to disk. But for higher quality scans - it's the same as most low-priced flat-beds. I purchased mine on ebay from a reputable seller - and it cost me under $60 for everything. For the convenience of not sorting through 600+ files - it's a blessing. The ADF can jam easily, and the scanner (to my knowledge) doesn't do duplex scanning. Also, I'm not quite sure - but it would be nice to merge pdf's when you have to scan additional pages. But for the money - it's a great little scanner! Just make sure (when buying used) that it includes software, ac adapter, etc.Read full review
I would love to use this thing but it doesn't have a power supply. I know HP makes great devices. I use HP printers almost exclusively and my review is more about reading and understanding what it is you are buying. This one didn't come with a power supply so I'm trying to find one. I bought one and the ad reads like this: "AC Power Adapter Supply 4 HP ScanJet 5500cxi 5530 5550C". But you know what? The voltage is right, the amperes are more than enough infact 2/3 again as much, but the plug doesn't fit. I bought the scanner to speed my photo scanning project, and hope to use it someday when I can get the right power supply. I may give the seller of the power supply a negative if they can't get back to me fast! Good bye and God speed! Doug
I purchased this scanner because of its' low cost, smaller size and ease of use. Although the specs do not include Windows 7, it does work with 7 by simply "plug and play" using the WIA Scanner Drivers within Windows 7. The unit will work will all Windows including xp, vista and now 7. I needed the small size as I use in a small area where I manage my home based business. I also use if I want to quickly scan a few photos to post to Facebook which is so convenient. My scans are always top notch. I also use the scanner to fax using a fax program on my laptop, the ADF comes in very handy for faxes with multiple pages. I highly recommend this unit for those who need a smaller unit of good quality and those who find a document feeder a necessity.
After downloading the user manual and software from the HP website, the product worked well. Did what I expected. It is a good flatbed scanner with the hardware to scan in images from photo slides.
pretty simple to setup and use and straight forward.
