Italo Calvino creates poetic genius juxtaposed with deep, philosophical, exploration. Calvino had a unique ability to pack so much philosophical truth into short stories without creating confusion. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to discover the world of philosophy through the eyes of Calvino’s main themes in Invisible Cities; perspective, memory, class hierarchy, and modern advancement.

philosophical fiction or fantasy; beautiful translation in prose poetry & recommended if you ever wondered what the Rubaiyat would be like if Borges wrote it

Calvino's genius shines like a diamond in Invisible Cities. The chapters are even structured in a gem-shape, a secret lost on some. The prose is terse and beautiful, and the truths revealed within are too vast for my feeble words to do them justice. I was lucky enough to have an amazing English professor in my sophomore year of college who assigned this, and if it was up to me, I would make it mandatory reading for all university students. Perhaps, though, it is better discovered off the beaten path, in some forgotten cornice...
great
