I love Definitive Technology BP series. The balance of the sound and integrated sub-woofer both are great ideas. Don't need the space for sub-woofer just feels wonderful. The only and major problem is the amp some how goes bad for no apparent reason. I had three so far and the replacement amps are not cheap. You will see a lot of these BP series with non-working sub-woofer amps. One of my friends bought a set with sub-woofer amp problem very cheap and use them with external subwoofer speaker, which works perfectly. I have owned BP7005, 2002, 8040 they all sound very nice.

On initial hook up, these get 4 of 5 stars. That is solely due to the break in these need. All speakers have a break in period. With these and other Def Tech's it's much more obvious. Brand new, many models of Def Tech speakers have a very flat sounding midrange and the bass can be quite stiff. I also own 4 Def Tech StudioMonitor 350's. They also needed a good deal of breaking in. With the BP-7006's it's just much more so. After roughly 6 or 7 hours, I could hear them just starting to open up. Initially, through their entire range, sound quality is very good. Almost great and it is quite plain that these will improve to nearly perfect. At that point they will fully deserve the five stars I gave them. I'm running these and the 350's from a 115 W per channel Onkyo 7.2 receiver that serves double duty for music and home theater. I've connected these straight (no LFE cable) with 14 awg speaker wire. Musically, they have handled everything I've thrown at them with a sneer. As if to say, "That the best you got, bum!?" Jazz = James Darren, Karrin Allyson, and Cab Calloway. 4.3 of 5. Classical = Edvard Greig and Chopin. 4 of 5. Metal = Testament, Gorgoroth, Arch Enemy, and of course SLAYER! 5 of 5. These are hands down the best Rock/Metal speakers I've every heard. Classical music is where I can find my one complaint. Although it's really a point in their favor. Never once have I been impressed with the sound mixing and engineering I've heard from classical recordings. The volume is often wildly all over the place. I am well aware that is an inherent characteristic of Classical music. The recording process often greatly exaggerates that to the point of unlistenable. You can go from not hearing anything at all to "Oh god, my ears are bleeding" having never once touched the volume control. Classical recordings also often have a hollow, empty sound to them. These speakers are so clean sounding that all of these flaws are right there in your face. I'm fairly certain I could here one of the players cough in my copy of Greig's Hall of the Mountain King. Metal is where these beasts really shine. I can't go on enough about how awesome and powerful and a thousand other ultimately useless adjectives for how they sound with Metal so I won't bother trying. Words don't work until you hear speakers for yourself and then it's "Oh, yeah. Well, duh. So that's it then. I understand now." As far as home theater goes, I haven't done more than some test drives. A few random scenes from Transformers and Army of Darkness. As well as the ending scene to the most recent Rambo movie. You know, the bit where he goes hog wild with a mounted M-60 machine gun for 15 minutes. All of that left me thinking, "Oh, yes. This is going to fun!" My real bottom line. Buy these or any Def Tech speakers and you won't be sorry. You're wallet may hate you but so what.Read full review
Great speakers but after 4 years, one speaker developed a noticeable 120 Hz hum. The speaker was beyond the 3 year warranty period for electronics problems and Best Buy did not seem to be interested in providing out-of-warranty repairs. Decided to email Definitive support to see if I could buy a replacement part, expecting it to be $$$$$. Received a response from Definitive less than 2 hours later. The support tech said that even though I was "slightly out of warranty," he could still take care of my problem and would send a replacement internal amplifier at no charge! He even attached a PDF with detailed do-it-yourself directions for the repair. Definitive is a company that REALLY supports their products.
I prefer dual built in sub woofers as opposed to a stand alone sub, and these speakers have 300 watt built in sub woofers which provides excellent rumbling for movies and strong bass for music. Since these are bipolar speakers (sound comes out front and back), they create a spacious sound field which is great for movies. For music, they are bright and clear. They are very good for rock and pop music in particular. My Boston Acoustic speakers that these replace were not as bright on the high end but had more accurate bass. Overall in this price range, definitive technology speakers are a great bargain, especially for movie sound. And unless you have a huge room, you can get the smaller Definitive Tech towers like these and you still get a lot of sound. If I had a big movie room I would get the larger ones, which would sound like a movie theatre.Read full review
