I've used a Novation Launchpad in the past, so I'm familiar with the brand quality, pricepoint, and build. This midi controller fit a great need for me. I wanted something in which I could launch clips, if I needed to. I also needed something that could work with pad-based software plugins (Ableton Drum Racks, etc.). As well, I wanted a basic set of keys to play VSTi synths, etc. (Komplete, Massive). This unit does all of those things, and requires no setup if you're using Ableton Live. Launching the clips, obviously isn't as easy as it is with a larger grid (i.e. Launchpad, APC40, or PUSH) but it can get the job done when you need it to be done. There have been a few times when (it is in the 'INControl' mode (firing clips)) that it stops responding to my DAW software. I've experienced this about 5-6 times. So I've yet to figure out if it was a short - term issue or something that will intermittently occur throughout the life of the controller. Overall it's great , easy, portable.Read full review

Great for anyone who loves making music in a small space like an apartment but what I don't like is you have to sort of Hit the pads with a little bit of force to get a good sound out of it otherwise you have to edit the volumes in your Daw I use it with Cubase I'm going to get a better one eventually but this will do for now

The LaunchKey Mini works great out of the box. You just have to set up a few configurations in Ableton and your good to go. I can't speak for how well it works with other DAWs, but Ableton users will find the launch pads on this thing great for their workflow. It's well put together and offers you a wide range of simple controls for creating melodies, sequences, or sound adjustments.
