I live in Chicago and have a rural weekend home about 80 miles away which I keep minimally heated in the winter. Friends recommended a freeze dialer but I don't have a landline so that wouldn't work. I do have broadband service however, so the Honeywell Lyric was a great solution. It was relatively easy to set up and I put it in the basement to keep tabs on the temperature, as well as to detect a water leak, should the water heater blow or something else cause a flood. This has provided me peace of mind, especially during periods where I can't get out there for several weeks. I also love that there is no monthly monitoring fee or service that I have to subscribe to, as I'm not looking for any more monthly bills to pay. The only enhancement I would like to see is if it would be possible to take the temperature "on demand" instead of at the predetermined once, twice or three times per day that the system currently supports. But as it is, this device enables me to check on things if we get a cold snap and alert me to a significant drop such that I could probably get out there and address any problem before the house would freeze and create a real nightmare for me.Read full review

This company resideo who runs the Honeywell home stuff is a nightmare to deal with. I bought this used, and they had an asinine policy that they had to get permission from the prior owner to register it to my account. To protect them. From the potential theft of a trivial sensor. Just be aware of you buy used or want the flexibility to sell it.

I travel a few times a year out of the country and have my home protected with cameras but have not had the piece of mind of knowing if I have a water leak. Now I do. I am currently away and can monitor the leak detector from any location. It was VERY easy to set up in about five minutes. Download the app,put the batteries in and place the unit in a desired location. In my home the unit is near my washing machine and furnace so if any leaks occur I will get an email notice and then I can contact a son or neighbor to check the house. Highly recommend

This was insanely easy to set up. Just follow the quick instructions. We set up the unit in one place, and used the cable to put that sensor in a different location about 3 feet away. I don't want any more surprises if our sump pump fails! The noise it makes (when you insert the batteries, it squeals, by the way) is high pitched and not easy to dismiss! The app for my iPhone was very simple to use also.

Very easy install; instructions lead you through process from start to finish. Integrates seamlessly with smartphone. Not only will detect leaks and freeze situation, but pushes notifications to smartphone about temperature and humidity conditions at install site. Can also set alerts to notify you via smartphone if temperature gets too low or too high at install site. Well worth the price given that a water leak or frozen pipe will cost you substantially more.
