It took awhile to get it working but thats only because this thing will do about anything you ask of it. The user manual is 419 pages and covers everything. The quick start guide is only about 50 pages. And they were in English! I've had 2 other chinese VFD's and the manuals were about useless. Thankfully there is YouTube and Google. This VFD can operate in Constant torque, variable torque and sensorless-vector mode's. Constant torques was easy to get running. Sensorless Vector took more time and required auto-tuning. But once I had all the parameters set correctly this thing would accelerate my spindle from 0 to 24000 rpm in 1 second! And decelerate it just as fast (with braking resistor installed)! The quickest I was able to get the chinese VFD's to accelerate without tripping out on over-current was ~ 7 seconds. They may have been capable of better performance but without being able to read the manual there was no chance you'd be able to set it up to do it. The Hitachi does everything I need and everything I will EVER need. Very pleased with my purchase.Read full review

Getting started with this drive was a bit hard for me. It was my first and it took a bit to figure out how to make the settings. The quick start guide isn't the easiest to master. The full manual on CD is a bit better to work from. Once you get the hang of it, the settings are a snap to change/adjust. Most of the settings don't apply to my use as a manual speed controller. Simple forward/reverse and a speed pot are all I need. Use the 'auto tune' feature. So far I have had no problems from 10 to 120 HZ. Very smooth and strong. Upped the carrier frequency to 10 kHz and the whine is gone with no heating problems. Was not able to heat up a 200 watt braking resistor (40 ohms) with a .5 second stop repeated 10 times pretty fast. I am using this on a 1.5 HP motor and did the stops from 120 HZ. Not having any other drives I cannot compare this to them but this drive is all I wanted it to be and more. My longest run times are about an hour so far and nothing has ever got even warm so I may change the fan run to temp. control run. One last thing, I replaced a single phase motor and this is very quiet.Read full review

quality product..I installed MANY of these drives on machine tools for customers that have to have a reliable drive for their machinery..the Hitachi drives perform well in abusive environments and have a blinding array of programmable features that are definitely worth the money..One liability with these drives are the terminal blocks for the control side, they rely on a spring loaded wire pressure terminal, not the typical set-screw style block..easy to break and damage..other than that,a great reliable product..great job Hitachi.

Single phase input, constant torque sensorless vector, plenty of settings / parameters to customize...what's not to like?
