The problem with this product is you don't know if you have to replace it or not. The printer gives you no information that it's failed. The only clue is a complete abense of one of the rows in the nozzle check printout. So after wasting a lot of ink on self-cleaning then giving the original head a decent manual clean (which it really needed) there still wasn't so much as a spec of ink from the non-functioning nozzle. So I assumed it was not a clog but a failure of something. So I bought this replacement head on the assumption that it was the most likely thing to have failed. Dropping in the replacement was so easy it's like Canon expects it to fail so they made it easy to replace. I was pleased to find the printer now firing on all nozzles. Job done. It is considerably less than the new cost of this particular printer (but not cheap enough to replace in a cheap printer) and I avoided having go throught printer research all over again.Read full review

Canon discontinued manufacturing these well over 5 years ago. There are a few Chinese companies that collect discarded printheads and 'refurbish' them (or try to). If you get a good one, your lucky. I didn't, more than once. From experience, I would guess-estimate one in 5 maybe good (usable). The other problem is, many of these sellers here are advertising these as "new-other", meaning the product isn't in an original box. Well, that's true, but the product is NOT new! The original Canon 'Made in Japan' can be seen stamped on the side of the heads along with what appears to be a serial number (or similar) if you look close.

The printhead was relatively new and tested. It gave a good print test initially except black pg had gaps. I did a couple of cleanings and got a good test. It has since tended to have black skips but always fixable by cleanings. It may be an ink problem and could resolve with a new cartridge. I am satisfied.

This was a brand new item which replaced a bad print head on my Canon MP530 printer. Works perfectly!

Canon MP530 was a useless paperweight, none of the 3 functions worked without the print head. Almost bought a dedicated scanner. Not please with Canon or any other 3 in 1 manufacturer who extort their customers for ink. May still get a dedicated scanner for legal size documents.
