No power repair Hotpoint dryer
This timer replacement corrected the loss of power to the dryer. Plastic shaft has a tendency to get rounded and knob will not move the switch positions. Slow turning helps prolong the shift s flat side that engages the knob body.

Planned obscelesence.
This is the same timer that came in my 2 year old Hotpoint dryer. It took 10 minutes for me to install, and runs perfectly. For now. Repair places wanted to charge more than the original purchase price of the dryer to replace the timer. I have to say that I am disappointed in GE. It seems GE dryers, at least the Hotpoint models, are built with planned obsolescence. The shaft that the timer knob turns to select a setting is made of PLASTIC. If you use your dryer daily, like I do, it IS going to break on you. I replaced the knob 3 times and had to replace the timer the last time. Because of the plastic shaft, I am certain that within the next couple of years (if not sooner) I will have to replace the timer again, if the part is still obtainable. GE/Hotpoint dryer timer
This was an exact replacement part for my Hotpoint dryer. Only took about 15 minutes to remove the old timer and replace it with the new timer. The cost was way less than what was available in town and the dryer works like new.

Mine is only 2+years old. The only problem with it is that the plastic stem to knob broke. The new one is just as cheaply made. Assuming that they no longer use a metal stem.

Best bang for the buck.
I shop diligently. This was was the best price I could find. My new timer is installed and working good. I am having a lot of trouble with this particular timer getting too tight and breaking the stem on the control knob. This is the 4th time this has happened on one of my rentals with this particular timer.
