I had not been familiar with Andy Goldsworthy's work before seeing this video. It started out rather slow and I wondered why I was watching it. As it progressed, I was drawn in with each new idea and art rendering. The man is truly gifted and has a wonderful imagination to come up with his works of art from the world around him. He is not like Christo who brings in man-made objects and creates show-stopping works. Rather, his art is "quiet" and unobtrusive, yet powerful. By the time the video was finished, I was totally hooked and had the urge to go out and create something. There are several coffee-table books about Goldsworthy's work, hoever, many of his creations are dynamic-that is, they change with time and they move with the tides or the stream flow. It was totally by accident I saw this video and now I have also purchased the book "TIME" which contains many of the works in the video. They are a nice set.Read full review
Andy Goldsworthy creates art out-of-doors from the natural materials on hand. His work--with ice, leaves, stones, running water, etc--is evocative, surprising, beautiful and often ephemeral. So it's great material for a video treatment. I'm a huge fan of Goldsworthy's work and this film marvelously portrays its creation, movement, and change over time, interweaving the art, natural setting, the artist's musings and music. I've introduced dozens of people to "Rivers and Tides," and they've all loved it.

andy goldsworthy's art is great in photos. but i have to say that seeing his art in motion has so much more to it and seeing him in the process of creation makes you feel a connection when nature agrees or disagrees with what he's trying to accomplish. truly amazing. another thing i liked about this documentary is how it was filmed and directed. plus the music of fred frith. it was like a collaboration of many great artists. the same with "touch the sound" which was done by the same person.
Living art, beauty in motion. The images created by this artist are a gift to one's memories.

I would rate this as excellent. This is the second copy I have bought, having given one away to friends. I used this as a teaching tool for my ART 101 class at a local college in Massachusetts. The students respond well to the work of this unique artist. It's a fascinating dvd about a fascinating artist, Andy Goldsworthy.
