Author Biography
AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY Professor Krishnamurthy, known as 'Prof Krishna' to his students, peers and well-wishers, is currently Consultant in Safety, Structures and Computer Applications in Singapore. Born in 1931 in Bangalore, India, he spent the first ten years of his life in Burma (Myanmar), until his family returned to India at the beginning of Second World War. He has more than five and a half decades of teaching, research, and consultancy experience, including seminars and short courses for practicing engineers in U.S.A., Singapore, India, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and UAE. In U.S.A. he was Civil Engineering Professor at Auburn and Vanderbilt Universities, and Professor and Chair of C.E. at University of Alabama in Birmingham. He has also taught at Mysore University in India and in National University of Singapore, UniSIM, and currently teaches at University of Newcastle (Australia) - Singapore. He worked summers and consulted for the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission in the 1960s, and ran a computer center in India during the 1990s. His extensive research in USA on steel connections in the 1970s led to a revised design for a bolted connection, incorporated into the AISC Steel Construction Manual. In Singapore he does consultancy and research for the Singapore Ministry of Manpower and WSH Council and WSH Institute on workplace safety and risk management. He has written over a hundred papers and three books including Introduction to Risk Management, and contributed to other books and compilations. In recent years Professor Krishnamurthy has been focusing on workplace safety and risk management, lecturing, writing, and consulting on safety-related topics in Singapore, U.S.A., and other countries. He has taught hundreds of safety-related courses for many organizations, and acts as a consultant and expert witness in accident investigations. He owns an invention called 'SAFER-Diamond', a computer-assisted technique to analyze and manage risks, patented in Singapore and Australia, and has another invention for scaffolding and formwork in the works.
