This camera was a gift for my daughter. She is using it for her video productions class. She found a problem with the editing software. If you take 5 second or less clips, the video will not save. She made an awesome video, but couldn't save it. The video quality looks excellent. She has used the still camera feature, but I don't know how those pictures look yet. Since she is the user, I don't know how convenient the controls are. She seems to be able to manage pretty well and she likes them. She is an 8th grader. We have bought extra memory. Class 10 is a faster memory card, which is needed for faster transfer rates. I thought we needed it because she was having to delete clips to save new ones. But the problem wasn't memory, she had the maximum # of clips, around 60. The battery doesn't have the longest life, so we will eventually buy a backup battery later. It doesn't come with a charger, so the battery has to be charged while hooked up to the camcorder.Read full review
The HF M30 is a great camcorder, it's got a lot of neat settings and is very versatile. The cool thing about it is it has a manual focus setting to where you can focus on objects manually. It's decent in low-light, so I would suggest buying a video light to attach onto it's shoe. Battery life lasts about an hour and a half. This camcorder has great sound and it is surround sound ready. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great camera for a cheap price!
I like the camera so far. It has great picture quality and after playing with some features I was able to make it much better than the default settings. However it makes a rattling noise make it is shaken slightly, I don't know if it is damaged or not but it still works fine. The only real problem for me is the on/off noise, because I intend to use it while hunting, hope I can turn it off.
Great picture quality, easy to use, long battery life, good software, great zoom, starts up fast, easy to use. I wanted a camera with a mic jack for youtube videos. No disappointments at all - everything about this camera is great. The extras included in the price from the seller are awesome - a bag, extra battery, usb adapter, cleaning kit, etc. are all valuable and useful. You can't go wrong with this camera from this seller.
I was back and forth if I should get a lower model or a higher priced model and very happy I took this one. I use iMovie and Final Cut to edit videos. The HD 1080p takes up A LOT of memory. But even if you bring down the quality to save some space on your hard drive or SD card the quality is still very good. The battery will last give or take 90 minutes. Which isn't the greatest if your at the zoo or if your across the world site seeing and run out of battery. The quality is amazing with the right editing software. Believe it or not the software you use can really add or take away from the imagery. Con's: the touch screen was the biggest con. Although it should make navigating through the menus easier- it doesn't. The menu is well set up. You have to play around with the menu until you adjust or find what your looking for- HOWEVER the screen itself- as in the plastic- or whatever it is seems cheap and you feel as though your touching many options at once. The plastic screen presses down as your finger presses down on it and it makes it harder for anyone with HUGE fingers to navigate through the menu. They might make a pen for it... that would be nice... but that's the only con. Aside from the battery. Also I wish you were able LIVE STREAM from your camera on to like LIVE STREAM... if there is I don't know about it. Pros: VIDEO QUALITY. That is the reason your buying Canon VS that really cheap brand that offers your the same "SPECS" for a few hundred dollars less. The picture quality is decent but you get better pictures from a point and shoot camera or DSLR. It's VERY easy to use and even has an EASY MODE for those not looking to major in film making just looking to record a birthday party ;) . It uses AVHD code that you have to download the software from canon's CD's unless you upload it from your computer via iMovie or Final Cut using LOG AND TRANSFER option. Good luck!!Read full review
