A number of years ago a cardiologist (M.D.) did various tests on me and based upon one of those tests, a sample of my blood, he wanted me to take prescription medication for high cholesterol. I asked him if I could take a natural alternative. He asked what I had in mind. I said, "niacin". He said that would work just as good. He wanted me to take 2,000 mg per day of niacin per day. Maybe we got mixed up on it as to time released vs fast acting. As far as I know only the fast acting niacin is of any real value. Check online or in the book "Prescription for Nutritional Healing". In any event, I got and took a 1,000 mg fast acting niacin capsule. What a mistake. The flush and heat were a lot to take and it went on for half an hour. He also wanted me to take 400 units of vitamin E and a gram or two of vitamin C per day which I took these extra items for a week or two. But, I immediately switched to 100 mg fast acting niacin. I went back 5 or 6 weeks later and the doctor tested me again for cholesterol and it was totally normal. I had learned this a few years prior as a doctor had actually prescribed fast acting niacin for my brother for high cholesterol and it worked for him in getting it down to normal. So, every years or two I get a bottle of 30 or 60 x 100 mg fast acting niacin. I take 1 am and 1 pm (2 per day). Sometimes I might go to 2 am and 2 pm (4 per day) until the bottle is empty. I've done this for many years and have tried several brands. Check it out on the internet. Niacin has many benefits. Nature's Way's fast acting niacin 100 mg is as good as it gets.Read full review
