This, the latest of the 'Outlander' series, is not as much about Clair and Jamie as it is about the Revolutionary War and about Lord John and William. I particularly like to have more about the main characters - Clair and Jamie. Lord John has never been one of my favorites. We also spend sometime with Roger and Brianna in Scotland. I thought the book had a weak ending, leaving us wanting a few more chapters. I hope I don't have to wait another 3 years before the next of the series. Would I reccommend it? Of course I would. If the readers has read the rest of the series they will absolutely want to read this book. Every woman needs a Jamie Fraser in their life - real or in the pages of a book.
I got hooked on the Outlander series last year. Read all books up to this one. Took a break and read others, however I couldn't wait until I started this book. As with the previous books, this one is written well and I enjoy the story, as "outlandish" as the concept is. If you haven't read any of this series, I highly recommend.

I am a great fan of Diana Gabaldon. I have loved everyhing she has written [even her Lord John series] which seems not to have gone over so well with other readers. I do not rate ECHO as high as All her other books but I bought the book and enjoyed it enough that I am looking forward to her next book. I am hoping it doesn't take her another 3 years to have her next book out.....she simply left too many cliff hangers. We are all hooked on Jamie and Claire, Brianna and Roger, Lord John and William, Ian Murray and Etc. She doesn't need to leave that many cliff hangers to keep us coming back for more!!!!That is the only bad review I can give this very talented story teller I did not purchase this book through ebay. I bought it new.
I became addicted to the Outlander series three years ago, after my friendly librarian told me about them. I own all of them now, and have reread them four times. The writer has the ability to put you in the book with the characters. Although the premise behind the story is more of a fantasy, the historical facts seem to be well researched. Once I read the first book I was hooked! This latest is as good as the first. The only aspect I disliked is the wait for the next one! If you like to use books as an escape from the day-to-day stuff, this could be for you, but you will then have to get your hands on all the others!
I've read every book in the series and LOVED them all. Predictably, the first one was the BEST and they "kind of" went down hill from there, but still ALL were VERY GOOD books. I've RE-READ them all more than once. But this last book absolutely SUCKS!!!! A Total waste of money and time!!! She "bounces" all over the place in the book, never settling on any one person/subject, and never really "gets into" ANY of the "plots" in the book. VERY DISAPPOINTING read. Seems like she just "starts a story" with SEVERAL people in the book and then doesn't bother to Finish ANY OF THEM!!! Just a book of "short stories with Beginnings, very little "middles" and NO ENDINGS FOR ANY OF THE STORIES!!! This book SUCKED and is NOT worth the price of a used paperback, let alone the full price I paid for the hardback edition!!! VERY DISAPPOINTING considering I've been waiting and going crazy looking for the "next installment" of Jamie & Claire. This book is barely even about them, and what little there is, is not even interesting!! Don't bother wasting your money on this book and be sure to spread the word, so others won't waste their money either!!! Diana G. does not "deserve" to make a cent on this book!!! She just "cranked it out" for money and put NO THOUGHT or EFFORT in to writing it!!! What a shame, considering that the other books in the series are the BEST I'VE EVER READ. (Well, the first 2 were. After that, they did start going down hill.) Again, I say, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!! THE BOOK ABSOLUTELY SUCKS!!!!!!!Read full review
