I like these older gps units because they are simple to use , especially when you just want to find your vehicle at nite after hunting etc. the first generation basic gps was the 12 channel, which user needs to be in a clearing to get satellites while the “high sensitivity” works good under moderate tree cover.

I purchased 9 of these for my high school students to use for an intro geocaching/gps class. They are inexpensive, relatively easy to use with minimal instruction, and the battery life has been good. The accuracy may not be as good as some other units, but usually get us within 15 feet of the desired waypoint in our area. They do tend to jump around in heavier cover, like pine trees. For the money they have been great units for geocaching.
When I first started using this product I loved it. It worked fine for what I needed it for, namely geocaching. However, for the second time now, it has died on me. One minute it's working properly, the next minute it's dead. The first time this happened, I went online and searched for other people who had had the same experience with this GPS. There are MANY people who've had the same problem! I did fix it once. I connected it to my computer, downloaded some caches. After disconnecting it from my computer, it worked the next few months just fine. But it recently died again. I tried the same technique -- connecting it to my computer -- but this time it's dead and won't come back to life. Suffice it to say, you're taking a chance if you buy this product.
By far the most accurate GPS I've used, Gives great speeds, super accurate. Its very easy to use with only about 5 buttons, many different screens that tell you different things. It actually tracks exact routes you took so you can look back upon and reroute them to get back to where you started which I found to be very cool. Overall a great product.
The Garmin does exactly what it says it will, however, I should have done more research. I previously owned a Delorme PN20, which was not intuitive/user friendly. When I received the Garmin, I realized that I was the problem. Not enough research and homework. The one thing that was really disappointing was the absence of a base map. I use a GPS for hunting. It is nice to know the contours of the land. Still though, having a piece of mind about not getting lost is just as important. My advise is do your HW.
