Gazebos & Pergolas

Gazebos

Gazebos are designed for entertaining guests while providing overhead protection from sun and rain. Decorative designs and stylistic features complement any outdoor occasion and landscape, from a quaint garden to an elegant outdoor affair. They can also be used for a wide range of entertainment events, too.

Are gazebos waterproof?

It depends upon the canopy's material. Here are some frequently used materials and their level of water resistance.

  • Canvas canopy: Canvas is not waterproof, but it is water resistant. It will keep anyone underneath it dry.
  • Polyester canopy: Polyester canopies are both durable and waterproof. They are lightweight and easily transportable.
  • Vinyl and Vinyl polyester composite canopy: These are durable, lightweight, and may feature decorative designs. Their water resistance varies from brand to brand. Be certain to read the manufacturer's label.

Do gazebos need to be anchored?

Depending upon size, purpose, and construction materials, they may need to be anchored. Here are some common ways to anchor the structures.

  • Permanent structures: Whether for a garden feature or permanent venue, concrete footers are dug into soil. The structure is attached to the footer using anchor screws or threaded rods.
  • Patio structures: Anchor a semi-permanent, or seasonal, structure to a patio by securing the structure's legs to threaded rods that have been drilled through the patio surface into the underlying soil. Steel structures are often anchored in this manner.
  • Pop-up structures: Temporary structures are held in place using soil anchors. Unlike semi-permanent steel skeletons, these pop-ups have lighter weight aluminum legs. Sandbags and other heavy objects can be used to secure lightweight structures to patios, asphalt and other hard surfaces.

Can covers be cleaned?

After the season ends, a fabric canopy can be cleaned according to manufacturer instructions. A non-fabric canopy can also be cleaned but methods vary depending on the material and the way in which it is attached to the body of the structure. Screens can also be cleaned and replaced as needed.

Can gazebos be used for camping?

The structure is open all sides and its height can be inconvenient in most camp settings. But for casual family camping trips, car camping, and other outdoor activities, portable and pop-up gazebos provide a communal location for groups of campers.

Can you barbecue under a gazebo?

Yes. Surprisingly, pit masters enjoy cooking under a canopy. Aside from providing a shield from the sun, structures with screens help keep insects away and provide a comfortable place to barbecue, relax, and enjoy a summer meal.

How can gardeners use gazebos?

Garden gazebos provide a garden with a focal point. Many permanent models have distinctive garden styles. A covered garden space is suitable for potting plants and performing other tasks while under a canopy. Garden gazebos provide excellent protection from the sun and the rain, in addition to providing shade for some outdoor plants that need indirect sunlight.
