I used this on my Mossberg Model 88 shotgun with the Slugster barrel installed. It looks really great on this short barrel. The only problem I ran into was on the 88 shotgun, the back ears on the heat shield interfere with the slide operation. Cutting about one quarter inch off these ears solve the problem. I gave it four stars because I had to modify it to work, but it is an easy modification, and the final installed product works great and looks great.

This heat shield is strong and very functional. I had to shave both edges to get it to work with Magpul foregrips. Once I installed a new standoff barrel on my Mossberg 500, the shield braces no longer fit around the barrel but it can be easily remedied. With a regular unmodified shotgun, these shields are excellent and need no modifications.

This is a good product. I used it to add a heat shield to my Mossberg 500 syn stock. As installed it would not allow the slide action to reach it's full stroke. After 2 hours machine work on the lower ring of the shield I got it to fit OK but I was concerned that I had removed a good deal of the plastic retaining ring material. There may nor be an issue with a wood stocked version, but this does detract from the overall rating. I would MUCH prefer the steel version that I used on another Mossberg 500 some years ago but I have not been able to find one. I used that shotgun for Boy Scouts of America firearms training and the steel shield kept a lot of small hands from getting burned

MAVERICK 88 (20"); This heat shield snapped right on. Only issue is racking, the back gets in the way. I will have to dremel off about an half inch. Other than that, great price and looks good. Hopefully the polymer won't melt and does better than steel as advertised. Thank you

Will only work on the maverick 88 if you shorten the back part that snaps onto the barrel.. you have to make about quarter an inch shorter on both sides....if you have a polymer forend you have to trim the sides of forend so that it will slide all the way back...over all for the price of 17 dollars it was worth the time and looks good on the gun
