This game is one that should look and feel very familiar if you've ever played Madden. The play calling and control layout are very user friendly and make it a bit more fun. It's tough to find room to rush in this game so passing is key! Scoring is always high and it's a pressure cooker in the pocket considering you have walls to contend with not far away. Those walls are great for defenders but tough for receivers. It's nice plowing a guy into the crowd though. The graphics during game play (on the field anyway) are good but with advances in games these days you would expect them to be better. I mean come on, this game is only a year old and yet it looks like a 90's something Madden. Regardless, who's buying the game to look at the crowd? All of the taunting the players do along with coaches on the field giving pointless tips and hilarious animated cheerleaders do detract from my personal experience but once again, it's all about what happens on the field. The disc has frozen on me several times when I let all of the animations play at the conclusion of a game. It just seems to get stuck on the last frame with the players on the field. This has also caused the season I was saving to become corrupted, which was upsetting considering I had played 9 games and was doing well. It seems to do fine if you just manually end the game to advance. The rules are way different in Arena Football and take some getting used to. You can catch balls that bounce off of the walls and off the goal nets and posts. The clock runs at odd times so you have to watch that. It starts right after you receive the kickoff, continues to run during extra points, stops on some rushing plays and continues on some incomplete passes and so on. Watch the clock! The linebackers have to stay in a particular space, you can only spin one defensive lineman at a time in a swim move (called Twisting foul) and so on. If I were to pick one thing I needed to learn more about in Arena Football, it would be the rules! Overall the game is worth it because it's fun and I find my self longing to play it at times. I actually put this one in before Madden now. I got a great deal on eBay and I'm glad I did. Houston lost their team (Thunderbears)a few years back but I've been able to unlock them and relive my 2 seasons we had with them. Too bad they weren't very good, they get slaughtered!Read full review
Strap on your helmet, and put your own team together, with Name, colors, etc, and or choose one of the OFficial teams of the AFL to do battle and see if you can win the game. I really liked the graphics, the animation, and the feel of really being at and in a real game. I also like that you can play a quick game, or you can play a whole season, and it will be saved on the Memory card. Like other EA sports football games, Ie Madden, NCAA football for PS2 the controls are basically the same, and therefore easy to control, the kicking in this game is a little difficult at first, but hey, we want to go for two point conversion anyway, Right? we really enjoy this game, if you enjoy running up the score, you can, but if you celebrate excessively the other team lets you know. So if you have what it takes, or just enjoy football, strap on the helmet, and lead your team all the way!! (Hopefully) otherwise just enjoy the real deal, without the aches or pains the next day.Read full review
