We are a group of precision shooters, primarily interested in benchrest score shooting.. The Lyman Borescope very effectively examines and displays the interior of rifle bores, chambers, and muzzle crowns. It is quick to deploy, easy to use, and displays the camera's vision in adequate resolution. It quickly became a fixture assessing whether barrels are actually clean of copper and carbon fouling. Many times, after normal cleaning, we find barrels we thought were clean, clearly show streaks of copper or other debris. It also shows the condition of the throat (fire-cracking, erosion), reveals corrosion, pitting, excessive tool marks, and worn leades. The design is generally well thought out and is easy to return to a previously located defect (i.e. to see whether intense cleaning or use of a bore paste has been effective). It does not have the high resolution of the Hawkeye borescope...but the display and photos produced are perfectly sufficient for the purpose. The Smart Bear relegates the 700$ difference in cost to other supplies or equipment..Read full review

Really nice product and delivers as promised. Very easy to see bore/lands and identify lead, copper ...really, any fouling/buildup in barrel. ONLY wish 'they' (mfgr) could get the camera rod length correct on their marketing information. I've seen lengths advertised from 20 to 22 inches and the one I got is 20". OK for bolt actions as you can remove the bolt and run the camera from the breech or from the muzzle to examine barrels longer than 19". But, hey, how difficult is it to get the marketing pitch correct?

The pictures of the side walls are clear and informative. The ability to store these images on a USB memory stick is wonderful and a worthwhile feature. I would have liked to have a 360 degree forward looking view as well as the side view. The rod length is only just adequate. It requires inserting the scope from both ends to inspect the whole barrel of long arms. A little expensive having to get it to Australia with our poor exchange rate. However I have not found any alternative. I recommend it to anyone needing to do close inspections of gun barrels or thing tubes.

I read all the reviews on this and was somewhat concerned it would be inadequate. Is it as good as a Hawkeye bore scope? No. Is it a quality serviceable tool? Yes. Image focal depth is very shallow which means the lens has to be close to the surface you are examining. Which works out fine because I want a close up look at the bore. You can not send it down the bore and expect to get a 360view, but up close and personal it shows a very good image. Take your time and use it within its limitations and it is a great value for dollar. Thanks Lyman.

After reading all the reviews I was pleasantly surprised that this bore cam is a tool I will never be without. My only .1% problem was with the lack of a good case. I knew the cardboard box wouldn't last. I found the perfect solution for this. A mtm mini arrow case works perfect and a 2 inch piece of gray ridgid foam cut in half. Once I cut out for all the components I now have the perfect setup. Now if only Lyman would do the same to protect their product properly. Oh I did add a battery that isn't included for about $10 to eliminate those pesky cords to trip over, or when using it at the range.
