This film received mixed reviews when it was released in the early-80s. Criticism was towards its comedic & campy tone as well as the casting & performance of Richard Pryor, but praise was towards its special effects and the performance of Christopher Reeve as Superman. This film could have been made much better if Richard Donner was in the directors chair (if the disputes hadn't occur) and if there was a different, much better storyline.

I BASICALLY BOUGHT IT BECAUSE OF ALL THE SUPERMAN MOVIES THAT I REMEMBERED WATCHING AS A KID THIS WAS THE ONE THAT I REMEMBERED THE LEAST. TURNS OUT ITS PROBABLY THE BEST ONE IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE SERIES. MINUS THE FACT THAT LEX LUTHOR (GENE HACKMAN) ISN'T EVEN IN THIS MOVIE AND HE'S IN EVERY OTHER ONE. AND LOIS LANE (MARGOT KIDDER) IS ONLY IN THE VERY BEGINNING AND THE VERY END. THEY ALSO TRY TO WRITE IN A NEW LOVE INTEREST FOR CLARK KENT WHICH IS UTTERLY RIDICULOUS MOSTLY BECAUSE THEY WRITE HER IN AS A RECURRING ROLE AND THEN WHEN YOU GET TO SUPERMAN IV THERE IS NO MENTION OF HER AT ALL. OVERALL, THOUGH, I WOULD SAY THIS MOVIE IS PRETTY KICK ASS AND RICHARD PRYOR'S CHARACTER ADDS A PRETTY FUNNY TWIST TO THE WHOLE THING. IF YOUR A SUPERMAN FAN, THEN THIS MOVIE IS A MUST HAVE.
I know that people talk bad things about Superman III but Superman III is good. Superman III has (1)Funny/Comedy moments, (2)it has Annette O'Toole/Martha Clark-Ma Kent from the tv show Smallville playing Lana Elizabeth Lang in Superman III. The (3)is it has Richard Franklin Lennox Thomas Pryor III that looks like Broderick Steven Steve Harvey from The Original Kings of Comedy and (4)the scene when Superman fought with Clark Joseph-Jerome Kent is excellent. Superman III went back to Superman: The Movie in that is was a fight with human kind. I Love you Superman! Rest in Peace Richard Franklin Lennox Thomas Pryor III.
Christopher Reeve, Richard Pryor and Robert Vaughn star in this 1983 action sequel. An evil mastermind hires a computer wiz to create a computer to harm the Man of Steel. This is ok, but it could've been better. I think one of the problems is it promoted Richard too much. This dvd has good picture and sound plus some neat extras. I'd still get this, especially if you're a Superman fan.
While this was not as good as the first two movies, it is funny. Richard Pryor is hilarious!
