While this is dated, because sound engineers do almost everything digitally today, the concept of this Brian Depalma film stands the test of time. While John Travolta is out collecting background night sounds for a movie in a Philadelphia, he becomes a "sound witness" to a shot and subsequent murder. He pieces his sound together with another persons photographs of the scene and makes a modern day "Zapruder" film of the scene. Political intrigue follow, and a good and gritty city crime drama filmed in Philadelphia. Good pick.
I read a few reviews and the obvious differences are almost predictable. As an action Thriller it falls short. The actors are appearing early in their careers and are not as developed as some of them became. BUT the style and skill of Brian DePalma is clearly evident in this production and the plot line and location choices ( in Philadelphia ) are well worked out. If you are looking for something with New Millennium effects and Academy Award performances, stay away. If you love intelligent and reasonably believable films, Find a copy, buy it and pop it into your player when you have the time and the clear mind to enjoy this one.
This is a fair to good movie. For a rainy day, or a nothing to do night, it's a trip into yesteryear. I like it, and it is a rare find. For me, it's a slightly better than average movie, but worth adding to one's collection.

I purchased Blow Out thinking that I was getting more of a thriller by today's standards. I was wrong. The movie is from the 70s and therefore contains the mind set of people from the 70s. Why I didn't realize that it was an "old" movie is beyond me, but there you are. I also purchased Blow-Out because John Travolta stars in it. But again, it is a very young John Travolta. Think "Welcome Back Kotter" if you are old enough to have been around then. He isn't the polished actor of today in this movie. I didn't love this movie, but I don't hate it either. I'm indifferent. I found it hard to believe that a sound effects guy could be smarter and more cunning that a seasoned, trained hit-man. If you decide to watch Blow-Out, you'll see an okay movie. If you never see Blow-Out, you're not missing much so don't worry that your life is not complete for not having seen it.Read full review
Not a lot of action, but, this was a big deal when filmed in Philly. Oddly not available anywhere digitally. Happy to obtain this copy as my wife had never seen it.
