I'm on Facebook and was looking for a great Gere pic to post as my profile since I've been madly in lust since 1979 or so. Well, that's what did it. Looking at all the pics brought back memories of seeing Breathless in the early 80's. Of course, in some circles this scenario would have a faint chance of happening, but the thought of obsessive lust/love is quite appealing in my fantasy world. Gere delivers undying desire for one woman only and will settle for all or nothing. Nothing in between for his character, Jesse. The pool scene with Monica dripping in sensuality and Jesse's unbridled yearning, is nothing less than brilliant...set to Phillip Glass's seductive score. And the end scene I've seen a million times. This movie will invite you to a place most of us secretly yearn. This movie is corny, unrealistic, and great at the same time. It's a classic for me....even though it was panned by critics. This movie made a big impression on me the first time I saw it when I was 11 (way too young!) because of all the sex and the great soundtrack. While I certainly have a different perspective on in my 40s, it's still really fun to watch and Richard Gere in his heyday (I think this is just after American Gigolo?) gives a great, over the top performance.

Gere is at his drive-ya-nuts-handsome stage of life in the 1983 1 hour and 43 minute film about a thief, Jesse Lujack. Jerry Lee Lewis is his man and Monica (Valerie Kaprisky) is his woman. She's a French collegiate architect woman and he's irresistable to her because of his wild streak and crazy Jerry Lee Lewis imitation energy and movements. It's both sexy and quite funny, because of the chemistry between Gere and Kaprisky, and because Gere is always showing up with another classic stolen car, to sport her around in. The ending is classic~
We finally found an inexpensive copy of one of our favorite cult films. This movie is not easy to find and when I found a copy for less than $3, I jumped on it. It came quickly and in great condition, it seemed too good to be true!
