When I bought this copy I already had a copy that was released on DVD in 2000. Being the collector that I am I had to have a copy of the new version remastered, with more info about the 25th anniversary edition. When I was a teenager in 1973 I watched the Exorcist (had to get someone to buy us tickets we were all under 17 at the time). The special effects in that move for the time era were supurb. It wasn't until I watched Poltergeist ( I first had the CED version), that I was amazed at the special effects this movie had!!!!! I watched it that afternoon, then got my Mom to watch it with me that night, I have probally seen this move 25 times! It scared me the first time I watched it, and I enjoy it everytime I watch it now. This 25th anniversary edition is great! If you're a fan you need to see it! Carol Ann (Heather O'Rourke) was like a little angel, she was so cute, you had to keep watching the movie to see if she made it alright! Of course I watched the 2 sequels after the 1st with the 2nd sequel almost as good as the first (but not quite). In the second season you could look at Heather O'Rourke and tell she wasn't doing well even though she continued throughout the movie. It was really sad that someone as talented as Heather died at such an early age. The Heavenly Father needed another "little" angel to be with him and he called her home. I would suggest one night (start early) and watch the whole series, you won't be dissapointed! Especially with this new version, where there are interviews that give more insight to what the movie was really saying!!! William Trent) chattycathydadRead full review
The title prettymuch sums it up. At the time of it's release this movie had a good start. Being produced by Stephen Speilburg made it an automatic interest and director Toby Hooper did a fantastic job bringing together an image of an all american family in white bread suburbia. Unfortunately Spielburg's own directed movie E.T. Was released shortly after and put this film and many others in the dust. This movie horrified me as a kid to the point I would not be able to sleep if I heard a TV left on in the house, or could go near on that was full of static. Now I'm all grown up and it still gives me the creeps. The chill factor isn't because Zelda Rubenstein sounds like a 5 year old in a half sized-aunt Matilda body, (Though I'm sure that helps). The scare factor to me is that horrible, unexplainable things could happen to anybody. It's not going to care who you are or where you live. Bad spirits could go after your family and no one can tell you why. I've never seen a ghost, but for hours after this movie makes me jumpy making sure the kitchen chairs are still where I put them. I reccomend this movie to anyone with 80's nostalgia. I've heard someone wants to remake this movie and I think it should be left as is.Read full review
Only four stars as there was a skip in it, OT a huge gap but still. Love the movie, only had it on VHS so time for an upgrade. Thank you.

One of the all-time classic paranormal horror flicks of its time! 'They're here!' starts this roller-coaster ride of a possessed home in suburbia. The book "Poltergeist" is, of course, better, all in all, but the Spielberg-produced classic is more than worth the viewing over and over and over again! Craig T. Nelson and Jo Beth Williams stars as the husband and wife of this traumatized family. (Wonder whatever happened to the little-girl actress who uttered those famous words--"They're here!"?) For those of you into the sci-fi horror genre, this was the beginning of that 80's string of realistic paranormal activity. Who ya gonna call!? That strange little lady that told us to go into the light!
Ok so heres the thing. For years we have all waited for a fantastic special editon of Poltergeist and this isn't it. The are 2 featurettes about paranormal research that have nothing to do with the film, thats it. However the Transfer and the 5.1 surround sound are perfect! So if you want Poltergeist on DVD then you are better off with this edition then the old release. Just don't expect very much special features.
