I have loved reading this book and find it very useful in gaining an understanding of the people and issues in 1800-1900's US History. First I just checked this book out from the library for reading for my college U.S. History class. However, I decided to buy a copy after seeing how useful it is and wanting to annotate the text and study it more deeply. The authors do an excellent job of selecting interesting and relevant texts of the time period, and tying them together with well-written, introductions and essays. The chapters are well-organized and to the point, and so very conducive to studying and picking out what is most important for you. This book helped me find a deeper connection to the people and issues, which is what makes history most meaningful. I recommend it!
I bought it for class...I think I hated it so much because I hate the seller. The class was good though, I guess if you like writing until your hand falls off and you feel like when the hour and a half is over that you weren't able to get anything you needed down on paper. It makes the rest of the day feel much better because something else compares to that feeling in the morning.
I like the chapter setup, it gives a preview of chapters, and breakdown of topics of articles in chapter. Bought it for a class, overall its good.
