This book is good for people who have previous coding experience but haven't learned Java yet. The authors make the content easy to comprehend and the exercises and puzzles will keep you engaged in the reading. Great for beginners!

I found this book ideal for adding more tools for my java learning experience. Truly a book for a novice, rather for "dummies" which makes it an essential tool to refer to when one forgets certain java principles. I am still interested in an additional book that supplements and further breaks it down to teach step by step how to write java code. In contrast to beginners java books from Malik for instance, this book offers a much clearer teaching method that does not jump too deep into java and leaving the learner disoriented and losing interest; the graphics enhance the learning experience. I do recommend it for complete beginners.
The book is written in an easy to read style. The java language is complex but if you follow the book carefully---read it through before you try to write any code. I strongly recommend you get NetBeans or any other program to help you get started. Loading the java files into your computer never works as easy as the book says. Netbeans allows you to bypass that downloading stuff and get right to coding.
This is a good resource to learn OOP even if you are not a Java programmer. Awesome presentation. Structured and easy to understand
