I've just put in about three hrs. in on setting it up after watching a bunch of vids on the older and bigger ex model. Must compliment vox on this st model. it don't need reverb or delay to sound good at what it does. Im not much for effects but wanted a processor for the amps. having said that this one has decent effects they all sound good enough to me. I would use this live and that can be done if set right. i would just set it up with a clean followed by an overdrive 1 and 2 3 and 4 like that but I really have not spent enough time to figure it out. I put it through a 68 custom deluxe reverb and a boss katana and they both sounded good. I just wanted to expand on this review after spending several days more with the vox. I probably should have gave it 5 stars. I spent a lot of time researching pedals in the 200.00 dollar range because I was missing the vox and marshall sounds in my setup.I have other pedals a boss me-50 and a line6 pedal and this really blows those away in what it does.I have had a bunch of pdeals and amps in my 40 years of playing so when I say its a good one I mostly know what Im talking about. I lost all my stuff in a flood all most two years ago and am slowly carefully buying stuff back that I think I need. I like to play beatles and petty and stuff like that so this pedal fits that need. it really is able to do a clean raw convincing vox sound at just breakup.so good that I almost left off the verb. I also can do the twin reverb quite well. my next project will be a marshall plexi.Read full review

I bought this just to try something different for not a lot of money. It seems skewed more toward distorted Metal sounds, but it does them well. Not sure how it would work in a live performance if one wished to make use of the built-in foot pedal. If adjustments were something you want to do on-the-fly, the unit would likely need to be off the ground where the user could dial in some desired effect. All in all, for the bucks it's a nice little unit.

PREFACE: It took me about 2-3 weeks to really figure out how to use this and to decide if I was going to keep it. It's a small step down from the tone of analog pedals but it is very customizable, has a ton of good sounds and is really small. I changed the tube in mine in 10 minutes. A lot of bang for the buck. SIZE: I bought this pedal because it was small and because I'd heard one before and like it. I wanted something to carry to rehearsal along with my TECH 21 TM 10 amp that I put a 10" Ragin Cagin Delta Demon spkr in. The amp and pedal fit nicely inside a Tech 21 shoulder bag but enough about that. The pedal is smaller than I thought which I really like. CONFIGURATION: I replace the Ruby 12AX7 tube inside with a Sovtek 5751 12AX7 tube and it made the pedal sound better in my opinion. It took me 10" to replace the tube using a phillips head screw driver, eze peezy. Prior to replacing the tube I wasn't sure if I would be able to get "My Sound" from the pedal and use it in performance situations. The Sovtek tube reduces the output and seems to "tame" the high gain and some of the overdriven patches so you can manage them better. TONE: You will not get the same great tone out of this that you get going direct to an amp or through some great analog pedals. Tone is very, very important to me! However you can get some really good tones that are usable for performance and will work very well for rehearsal. EFFECTS: It has a lot of versatility and is very customizable. The delays don't seem as strong as a pedal and I missed having the dotted 8th note option. You can create a lot of different effect set ups on the fly...need tremolo? got it, need chorus? got it, need volume or wah or phaser? got it immediately. AMP MODELING: I like that you can easily change amps or cabinets to set up a sound. Each amp setting gives you 3 variations from clean to high gain and there are great 10", 12" 2x12" etc. speaker cab settings to mix with the different amp settings. DISLIKES: You have to kick out of the "patch" you're using to check the tuning. I dislike not having a real time tuner that you can look at even when you in the middle of a song to check that strings and notes are in tune. I really miss having a foot tap or a "string strum" tempo setting option for the delays. You have to tap a small button on this machine to set the tempo although you only have to tap it twice. A little inconvenient but not a deal breaker.Read full review
A friend of mine has a similar ToneLab and I've been impressed by the sound of it. The ST I got is pretty cool, it's versatile, and the tube stage lends it a nice natural sound. Great for headphone practicing and goes direct into your DAW. Nice! Some of the effects are not great. The flanger and phaser don't sound very natural and the Univibe and Leslie sim are kinda wierd, But the pitch shifter is worth the price right there. So much fun! When it's all said and done, I guess I think it's worth having if you do recording because you really can get a lot of different tones from it, but it's too much button pushing and stuff to do anything on the fly. Setting parameters for the expression pedal and things like that takes two hands. You would need to have your sounds all tweeked out and saved before any live performances. But I like it. Definitely worth the cost.Read full review
This is a solid piece of gear with authentic tones if you take the time to make adjustments and create your own patches. The presets showcase different effects but are not the best representation of what this unit can do. The high gain sounds are very good too if you turn down the gain to reasonable levels. This is probably not the best pedal for metal. It does clean and vintage tones very well though especially straight into a PA or mixer for recording. Note: Press and hold the amp model button to access additional parameters of presence, noise reduction, and cab models which make a huge difference in the sound.
