This microphone has a big "cool" factor. The Blue design's are exceptional. This Spark model is a low cost version. It needs 48Phantom power. The sound is not low cost. The mic is great for drums, which is what I'm using it for. It has a nice low end, while still clear. The ultra cool packaging in a wood box is great when you get it, but not too useful. I wish they had included a nice padded bag or portable carry case instead. But I found my own bag and hope it's as well built as it seems because it's going on location. PS: the mic holder and pop screen included are convenient and high quality.
I was on a tight budget when I bought the Spark to record vocals in my small studio. It sounds great and is performing well. The only caution I have to offer is that, since this is not a large diaphram condenser, the sound source must be quite close to the microphone. As you can see, the pop filter is mounted really close; that is about how close you have to be for your vocals to register. You can't mount a traditional pop filter 12" off the capsule like you would normally. I am not crazy about orange but they are offering them in white now which looks very cool. In my humble opinion, this is a good first mic for vocals in a small project or home studio. If you are broke, in need of a vocal mic for recording, and can scrape up an additional $100 (there are other condensers available for just under $100), then, buy all means, the Blue Spark is a much more respectable mic to have in your arsenal. In looks more professional and, while I have no reference point for comparison to under the $100 mics as far as sound, it sounds professional on the projects I've done.Read full review
The Blue Spark Digital is a top quality large diaphragm condenser mic with a high performance USB interface. It connects directly to your computer be it a Mac, PC, smartphone or tablet. If you want to use more than one you will need to contact Blue for some custom modifications to give the two mics separate identities. This is not a problem if your other USB mic is not a Blue Spark Digital. The mics controls are simple and effective. It is especially nice to have a gain control on the mic, other USB mics have gain set by software from the PC but with the Spark Digital you just turn a knob. Push button mute is also a great feature. With the gain turned up this mic can be very hot and will pick up a lot of background sound. The gain adjustment allows you to dial in just the right amount of gain. The mic is sturdily built on a steel body. I think it looks cool too. Kind of retroRead full review

This is a hidden gem in the mic world. Although it's a little "hyped" in the high end, it's much easier to tame that than getting high end out of a dull sounding mic. It's very quiet (low noise). It has a cool shock mount (unlike some other Blue mics.) It's size and weight make it easy to set up. It's a real bargain.
Right out of the box, the Spark gets the job done fantastically. Being a studio musician, I needed something of high quality without breaking the bank and I couldn't be more happy. The 'Focus' button is a great feature to have, as it is a great way to completely change the dynamic range. My only real complaint is the stock pop filter. It works alright, but I'd recommend spending the extra $20 to get a more sturdy one. If you're on a budget, but want great quality I would most certainly choose the Spark.
