I was lucky to get one of these from Tmobile through a trade-in program I believe Microsoft was doing to market their phones back in the days, so I sent them my Samsung Moment and got the HTC Radar 4G. It did not take me long to adapt, very easy to use and to get around it, I made so much use of the camera at only 5MP, it takes amazing photos, I loved the live tiles also, very cool feature in my opinion. The only things I dislike about it is, no way to expand memory capacity, but 8GB can be enough space for many users, also you just can't update the OS to a newer version (at least I was not able to update) and that was a bit disappointing. It definitely compare to others, it does much more than a cellphone alone could do a few years back, it is like carrying your laptop in your pocket.
I agree the battery dies out too fast. So if you can't get to a charger or use your phone a lot, think about getting a different smartphone. Because I noticed that as the battery gets low, all functions slow down. It will take forever to load. The next thing, the volume is low even pitched all the way up. I have normal hearing, but it's a strain and if you are going to use this in a busy area, a different phone might work better for you. All phones should have decent volume, pretty basic stuff. Overall, the HTC radar has nice features and options. Lots of wallpaper, plenty easy to move the tiles around, easy to access the settings and the phone quality is clear. This is my first smartphone and it didn't take too long to learn how to use the wi-fi and alternate between using that at home, and my data plan when out. I read through the manual beforehand, and just spent some time playing with it. I found that sending emails was easy enough and like that it's quite intuitive when you are composing. But I would NOT buy this phone again or recommend it to anyone. The Zune software is a nightmare. Windows forces everyone to use Zune if you want to synch music to your phone, upload or download photos, video, tc. I like little features like having a ringtone. I also looked forward to being able to synch my music so I could just carry just one thing while jogging, instead of my phone AND my mp3 player. Although I consider myself reasonably up to snuff when it comes to figuring out software, the Zune gave me fits. I hate being forced to use one type of software anyway, and that's what Windows does. I had to manually synch my music into the phone otherwise it would have added other audio that is for business and is not songs. But I couldn't find a way to separate them out, and deleting would have done away with them altogether, if I read the warning right. Then, to make matters worse, there is a specific format that wasn't readily apparent so when I added my music -- time consuming and manually -- it was just in the phone like storage, not in a way that wold play song after song. In all, I spent four days struggling with Zune, which uploaded my photos though I never said do that or hit anything that would be remotely close do doing that. I think that is intrusive. I ended up hating Zune, a problematic software and getting help is difficult with long hold times and a forum where you don't get answers (because everyone's confused) long hold times for live chat... you get the picture. Too much hassle to do something so simple. I finally synched my music in the proper format, and then I kept getting error messages that I didn't have a "Zune pass." Hey, I paid for every single note of music that is in my computer. I wanted to scream. I also downloaded some free apps. They stopped working after a few days and I couldn't re-download. I do have a data plan I pay for. So what gives? Ditto for the app on my NYT subscription that I do pay for. Just stopped working. Oh and PS, my anti-virus software also would work in a smartphone -- but not a windows phone. Another thing to consider. Windows phones are just buggy. I had a chat with a tech at my service provider and he said that Android phones are much more user-friendly. I can believe it. It is arrogance for Windows to force people to use their software and stupid for a company to cave into that type of pressure. It's the little things that mean a lot when comparing products.Read full review
It is a good phone. I wanted something simple to use. i do not know why a cell phone has to be so hard to use. I just want to pick up a phone and use it. This one you have push little icons to make a cal, more than just what you sere on the picture. I think I should have read more about what this phone is used for before buying it. Does seem like it will hold up longer my last cell phone from TMobile the Galaxy S lasted 6mths or less the screen broke-the Radar appears to be a pretty sturdy phone, the battery is protected, the screen has a little more protection. It overall is a good phone, again I should have read about it first, it is a mini PC. has excel, power point it can do a lot.
Amazing Phone! Ive had Iphones, and androids, and this doesn't even compare to any of them. I was bored with the Iphones sea of applications, and when I had an Android, all of the devices I used were always laggy, and crashing. Windows Phone 7.5 other than getting married to my wife, was the best decision I have ever made! These Phones run like water! I love the metro design, and all of the integration that this amazing phone has. The Zune built in, the Live tiles, The apps are supreme, and there are over 300 apps made everyday for the device, so as I'm typing now, we are at over 60,000 apps!! so obviously the developers like the platform, and that's a good thing! Watch Out Iphone, and Android, this phone is a key player in the smart phone world!
