The good: The Palm Treo 700wx offers more available memory than Verizon's version, the 700w. The Windows Mobile smart phone also has integrated Bluetooth, a 1.3-megapixel camera, and EV-DO support. The bad: The Palm Treo 700wx lacks integrated Wi-Fi and retains the low-resolution 240x240-pixel display. The bottom line: The Palm Treo 700wx brings some needed improvements to the Windows Mobile smart phone, such as more memory, but it's still far from perfect. Review: We're not sure if you've heard, but Sprint is getting its own version of the Palm Treo 700w. OK, we say this with a bit of sarcasm as the specs, the images, heck, even the user manual were leaked all over the Web. But now we can say officially that the Palm Treo 700wx for Sprint is here. The Windows Mobile-based Treo offers a couple of advantages over its Verizon variant, among them increased memory and thus improved performance. In addition, it comes with push e-mail capabilities right out of the box, and you can use it as Read more: http://reviews.cnet.com/smartphones/palm-treo-700wx-black/4505-6452_7-32058773.html#ixzz1FPoVFBuFRead full review
I bought my first Palm Treo many years ago. It was the 600. Although there were things I liked about the 600, it had very poor bluetooth features. I tried no less than eight different bluetooth headsets with the 600 and none worked well so I finally decided to change phones and bought a Blackberry Curve 8330. I don't think I have ever had a phone that I disliked more than the Blackberry. I had to hard reset the phone at least twice a day! After two years of cursing the Blackberry, I went back to the Treo and purchased the Treo Pro. I have only had the phone for a few weeks now, but I am very happy with it. The bluetooth issues with the 600 seem to have been addressed. My Jawbone headset and the car kit seem to work fine. The new Windows Mobile software gives you a comfortable at home feeling, at least if you are a PC user. The Treo Pro has voice command, and text to speech software integrated with the phone. You can set it to read your incoming text messages to you. Instant access to your Outlook contacts, events and email, as well as the ability to set up yahoo and/or hotmail to be delivered directly to your phone. My biggest complaint would be the battery life. When I am not going to be near a charger, I turn off the email push and voice features. Someday (maybe for Christmas) I will get an extended battery! Even so, if this phone broke today, I would likely purchase another on to replace it. I missed the touch screen feature and with the Pro you have the option of using the transcriber, which allows you to write on the screen with the stylus and the phone converts it to text for you and it is pretty accurate using either cursive or printing. Best of luck in your search for the perfect phone!Read full review
The Palm Treo Pro is a decent smartphone. My primary reason for owning it is that it would save on getting a GPS. It is one of the only devices I know of that have a true GPS system, unlike others (including the Pre) that have aGPS, or GPS based on cellular towers. Palm ditched support for Windows Mobile 6.5, so we're stuck with 6.1 on this device. Windows 6.1 Professional is decent and it does most of what I need well. The only real issues is that Pocket Internet Explorer is very, very slow on this device (I have none other to compare to) and the Treo Pro is heavily underpowered in the RAM department with only ~40MB available. When it comes to the design, it is essentially the Treo merged with the Centro. The keys are nearly the same and the cover pops off in the same manner...Just in the opposite direction. What's really nice is that there are no rubber covers to break off or wear nor cards falling out. Unlike the GSM Pro, we do not get earbuds...However newer Treo Pros I've seen come with a neat rubber wrap for the cord. The last thing I can think of to look at is battery life. I get 1% an hour drain with the phone operating. So about 4 - 5 days standby. While it isn't the best, it isn't too shabby for a CDMA device (which is more power hungry anyway than GSM). However, the only complaint I have about this phone is that when the battery is fully charged it will begin to discharge until 96%, recharge, and repeat. I was told this would prolong the life of the battery. However, it is probably best to not leave this phone on and charging overnight since topping off a battery repeatedly (even though this is 96%) might not be entirely good for it. I'm not 100% sure, though. Palm's Treo Pro is a good choice for a low price these days (with contract), but in terms of functionality it doesn't offer much compared to other phones. It does email, Office, and programs designed for a square screen well. Just, don't expect a lot of typical resolution stuff to work.Read full review
If you are a Palm fan, or are just dragging your feet switching to windows/droid/etc, the palm 850w will help you get over the hump and do it with features the new kids wish THEY had. Most of the familiar Palm features are there: the PDA, Sync, even the icon navigation is all old school, even if the Windows naming conventions throw you a little. Yes, Win6.1 Pro is a little slow, but not enough to matter if you are only checking flights or email and aren't browsing graphic-heavy sites a lot. The candy bar layout is tough and durable, no weird sliding joints to break. If you get a hard case and make any effort to protect the screen, you will never break this thing. I've beaten the crap out of mine and it still chugs along. The keyboard is small but very easy to use. If you had a Centro, it will feel enormous. Let's talk about the awesome features you just can't get anywhere, even on a brand-new phone: - True GPS built into the phone instead of the cell tower approximated stuff everyone else uses, so it works EVERYWHERE instead of just where phone coverage is. This phone could easily save your life when you get lost somewhere that you couldn't even call for help from! - Tethering. This phone can act as a wireless modem for your laptop. Try doing THAT with your nifty 3d phone. Not gonna happen. You will need to have a data plan and need to find a service rep who knows what he is doing to set up tethering, but why pay for a separate modem and a plan for it if you can put this in your pocket and do both? You won't be running 3 computers off of it like a dedicated cell modem could, but for a single road warrior who travels in the back of nowhere this thing is amazing. I consider this the closest thing to a true business and travel phone for the average businessman and outdoor enthusiast. It may not be a satellite phone, but you will use it everywhere.Read full review
I'm no techie.. this is a low tech review. Have had the Treo 700wx on the Sprint Network for almost 2 years. I bought it used and haven't looked back. This phone is easy to figure out, doesn't have those annoying 'rolling screen' probs that plague other phones, and despite my low-tech knowledge I use this phone to its fullest capabilities. Love the accessibility of the keyboard, adore the the voice command that speaks when I get a phone call. I get a kick out of hearing the phone proclaim "Phone call from "Dave" at work" whenever someone calls me. I use the internet on the phone daily and it is fast and easy to manuever. I have my Outlook synched up with it, and I get my messages with ease. Swithing between text and email is super easy. I don't need to pay for Sprint Naviagtion cuz the google map application I have on it is quick and dependable. A 'must have' for me is a touch screen and this one is super easy to work with-- few tiny areas that are too big for my fingers. But, I do rock the stylus when necessary. I use the calendar quite a bit-- its not perfect, but it's close. The weight and shape of the phone are comfortable. My used phone from 2 years ago( I figure it is probably about 4 years old) is giving out on me now. I've dropped it nearly every day, lol, and the sound is no longer dependable. My next phone will also be a Treo 700wx-- I'm so happy with this one, that all the phones I researched just don't compare favorably. I'm sticking with my Treo 700wx, I love this phone. Hopefully I'll quit dropping it soon, LOL. These suckers aren't cheap!Read full review
